Aim & Scope

Founded in 2017, ANASAY Journal is a peer-reviewed academic journal that aims to contribute to the publication of original, scholarly, and high-quality research in the fields of social sciences and humanities.

The primary aim of the journal is to facilitate the dissemination of scholarly knowledge produced in its defined fields of publication, particularly history, language and literature, cultural studies, philosophy, social studies, and economics and administrative sciences, among national and international academic communities. ANASAY Journal seeks to publish studies addressing different periods, societies, cultures, intellectual traditions, and geographical regions, as well as research that contributes to the theoretical and methodological development of the social sciences and humanities.

In addition to original studies based on the methods and sources of their respective disciplines, the journal also encourages interdisciplinary research that establishes meaningful scholarly connections among the fields covered within its publication scope. It aims to bring into academic circulation studies that examine historical, cultural, social, philosophical, political, economic, and administrative phenomena through scientific methods, are grounded in clearly defined research problems, and make original contributions to the relevant literature.

ANASAY Journal considers among its principal publishing objectives the strengthening of interaction between scholarly research produced in Türkiye and the international academic literature, the inclusion of studies by researchers from different countries and geographical regions, and the promotion of scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities.

The journal’s editorial evaluation processes are based on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, compliance with ethical principles, and consistency with the journal’s aims and scope. Editorial decisions are made solely on scholarly criteria, independently of authors’ institutional affiliations, nationality, ethnicity, religious beliefs, political views, or other personal characteristics.

In its academic publishing activities, ANASAY Journal adheres to the principles of transparency, research integrity, and good publishing practice set forth in the “Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing” developed by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.

ANASAY Journal publishes scholarly research in defined fields of the social sciences and humanities. Submissions are expected to be directly related to at least one of the disciplines listed below, to be grounded in the scholarly methods and literature of the relevant field, and to make an original academic contribution.

1. History and Historical Studies

The journal welcomes original research in the fields of Ancient History, Medieval History, Early Modern History, Modern History, and the History of the Republic of Türkiye, as well as Turkish History, Ottoman History, World History, Political History, Social History, Economic History, Cultural History, Urban History, Local and Regional History, Intellectual History, Institutional History, and Historiography.

Studies based on the reassessment of historical sources through new methods and approaches, as well as research that establishes connections between historical studies and other disciplines within the social sciences and humanities, may also be considered within the journal’s scope.

2. Language, Literature, and Cultural Studies

The scope of the journal in this field includes Turkish Language and Literature, linguistic studies, classical and modern literature, comparative literature, folk literature, folklore, oral culture, cultural studies, cultural heritage, traditional culture, narrative studies, cultural memory, and intercultural interaction.

3. Philosophy and Intellectual Studies

ANASAY Journal accepts original scholarly studies on the history of philosophy, Turkish-Islamic thought, ethics, epistemology, philosophy of science, political philosophy, social philosophy, philosophy of religion, aesthetics and philosophy of art, intellectual history, and contemporary philosophical issues.

4. Society and Human Studies

The journal publishes original research in the fields of sociology, social and cultural anthropology, social structure and change, migration, identity, family, social relations, urban and rural society, social memory, everyday life, and human-society relations.

Regional studies focusing on the historical, cultural, social, philosophical, political, or economic structures of a particular country, society, region, or geographical area fall within the scope of the journal.

Interdisciplinary studies in human and cultural geography, regional development, border and migration studies, as well as research examining the relationships among history, culture, society, thought, politics, and economics, may also be considered provided that the core research problem is directly related to one of the journal’s defined publication areas.

Interdisciplinary Studies

ANASAY Journal encourages interdisciplinary research. However, the fact that a study engages with more than one discipline is not, in itself, sufficient to establish its suitability for the journal.

The research question, theoretical framework, methodology, and scholarly contribution of interdisciplinary studies are expected to be clearly related to at least one of the journal’s principal publication fields listed above.

Fields Outside the Scope

In order to define the journal’s academic publication areas more clearly, as of 2027, ANASAY Journal does not accept manuscripts whose primary field is Journalism, Public Relations and Publicity, Radio, Television and Cinema, New Media, or Communication.

Manuscripts whose principal research problem, theoretical framework, and scholarly contribution are situated primarily within communication studies are not taken into the editorial evaluation process.

However, studies that use newspapers, periodicals, television, cinema, or digital sources as primary or secondary sources of data for historical, literary, cultural, philosophical, sociological, political, or economic research may be considered, provided that the main purpose and scholarly contribution of the study are directly related to one of the publication areas covered by ANASAY Journal.

Manuscripts that are not directly related to the journal’s declared aims and academic scope may be rejected at the editorial screening stage before being sent for peer review.

Types of Publications Accepted

ANASAY Journal primarily publishes original research articles.

In addition, review articles that make an original theoretical, methodological, or critical contribution to the relevant literature may also be considered for publication.

Submissions must not have been previously published and must not be under consideration by another journal at the time of submission. Acceptance of a manuscript is subject to its compliance with the journal’s aims and scope and to the successful completion of the journal’s scientific and ethical evaluation procedures.

Target Readership

The primary target readership of ANASAY Journal consists of researchers, academics, postgraduate students, and subject specialists working in history, language and literature, folklore, cultural studies, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, economics and administrative sciences, regional studies, and related fields within the social sciences and humanities.

The journal aims to reach researchers working in the social sciences and humanities both in Türkiye and in different countries and academic communities, and to contribute to the international dissemination and exchange of scholarly knowledge.

Publication Language and Publication Frequency

ANASAY Journal is published twice a year, in February and September.

The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English. Articles published in either language are subject to the same scientific, ethical, and editorial evaluation criteria.

All manuscripts submitted to the journal first undergo an editorial screening process in terms of their compliance with the journal’s aims and scope, scholarly quality, originality, and fundamental publication principles. Manuscripts found suitable at this stage are then taken into the scientific evaluation process in accordance with the journal’s publicly stated peer-review policy.
