Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Art-ekin Art Desing Journal is published twice a year, in June and December. The deadline for the author(s) who wish to submit an article to the June issue is May 15, and the deadline for the author(s) who wish to submit an article to the December issue is November 15. The publication language of Art-ekin Journal is Turkish. The studies sent to the journal are evaluated scientifically by blind review method after going through the editorial process.

Ethics Committee Approval received for research requiring Ethics Committee Permission must be documented and shown in the study (https://publicationethics.org/). In accordance with the personal data protection law, ethical committee permission is required for retrospective studies, qualitative or quantitative studies that require permission from the owners and collection of data from organizations to use surveys, scales, pictures and photographs belonging to others. It is used in all studies using survey, interview, focus group study, observation, experiment and interview techniques with participants. It should also be stated that the Publication Ethical Principles, Copyright Transfer Agreement and copyright regulations are complied with in the intellectual and artistic works used.

Art-ekin Journal, together with all its contributors, including authors, publishers, referees, editors and readers, is committed to complying with the issues specified in the Journal Editors' Guidelines prepared by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The principles below have been prepared using the "COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" and "COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" guides.

Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must be responsible for everything published in their journal. They should always be ready to issue corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when necessary.
They must ensure that all printed texts published by the journal reflect the message and contextualize it.
They must have processes in place to ensure the quality of the material they publish.
Must be able to maintain the integrity of academic records.
They must manage freedom of expression well.
They should encourage and be aware of peer review and publication-related research and re-evaluate their journal's processes in light of new findings.
They should work to persuade their publishers to use appropriate resources and seek guidance from experts.
They should support initiatives designed to reduce research and publication abuses.
They should take initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics.
They should evaluate the impact of journal policies on author and reviewer behavior, revising their policies as necessary to encourage responsible behavior and deter misconduct.
They must clearly identify non-peer-reviewed parts of the journal.
They must ensure that all their published work is reviewed by suitably qualified individuals.
They should adopt processes that promote accuracy, completeness and clarity of research reporting, including technical reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors Towards Readers
The editor should strive to make decisions aimed at meeting the needs of readers and the author(s).
The editor should try to constantly improve his journal as a result of the feedback he receives.
Actively seek out the opinions of author(s), readers, reviewers, and editorial board members about ways to improve the journal's processes.
It should encourage the use of appropriate guidelines and checklists. (e.g. MIAME,1 CONSORT2 )
Editors should clearly state who funded the research. Readers should be informed about who funded the research or other scientific work and whether the funders had any role in the research and its publication.
They should inform readers that submissions from journal staff or editorial board members are evaluated objectively and impartially.
They should develop a transparency policy to encourage maximum disclosure about the source of non-research articles.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor Towards Authors

Editors should issue guidance to the author(s) about everything that is expected of them. This guide should be updated regularly and linked to.
Editors should not revoke their decision to accept a submission unless they identify serious problems with the submission.
Editors' decisions to accept or reject an article for publication should be based on the article's importance, originality, clarity, validity of the work, and appropriateness to the journal's mandate.
A description of peer review processes should be published and editors should be prepared to justify any significant departures from the described processes.
Journals should have a declared mechanism for author(s) to appeal editorial decisions.
Editors should provide guidance on who should be listed as contributors in accordance with authorship criteria and/or standards in the relevant field.
New editors should not overturn the decision to publish previous editors' articles unless they identify serious problems.
It must ensure that appropriate reviewers are selected for submissions. (i.e. people who can evaluate the work and not disqualify competing interests)
Must respect author(s) requests not to review an individual's submissions, if reasonable and practicable.
The author should review their instructions regularly and provide links to relevant guides. (e.g. ICMJE5, Responsible research publication: international standards for author(s))
In cases of suspected misconduct or disputed authorship, guidance should be provided by COPE flowcharts (http://publicationethics.org/flowcharts).
They must publish details of how they handle cases of suspicion and abuse. (e.g. with links to COPE flowcharts)
Must publish submission and acceptance dates for articles.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor Towards Reviewers

Editors should have systems in place to ensure that the identity of reviewers is protected unless they use an open evaluation system that is communicated to the author(s) and reviewers.
They should encourage reviewers to comment on the originality of submissions and to be alert to unnecessary publication and plagiarism.
Editors should provide guidance to reviewers on all that is expected of them, including the need to treat submitted material confidentially. These guidelines should be updated regularly and should refer to or link to this code.
Editors should request reviewers to disclose possible competing interests before agreeing to review a submission.
They should encourage reviewers to comment on potential research and publication misconduct and ethical questions arising from submissions (e.g., unethical research design, insufficient detail on patient consent or protection of research subjects (including animals), inappropriate data manipulation and presentation).
Consideration of providing reviewers with tools to identify relevant publications (e.g. links to cited references and bibliographic searches)
All reviewer comments should be sent to the author(s) in full, unless they contain offensive or slanderous remarks.
They should encourage academic institutions to recognize peer review activities as part of the scientific process.
It should monitor the performance of peer reviews and take steps to ensure that it is of a high standard.
Develop and maintain a database of eligible reviewers and update it based on reviewers performance.
They should stop using reviewers who consistently produce discourteous, low-quality, or late reviews.
The reviewer database should ensure that it reflects the journal's community and add new reviewers as necessary.
Must use a wide range of sources (not just personal contacts) to identify potential new reviewers. (e.g. author recommendations, bibliographic databases)
In cases where reviewer misconduct is suspected, the COPE flowchart must be followed.
Editors should strive to ensure that peer review in their journals is fair, impartial, and timely.
Editors must have a blind peer review system to ensure that material submitted to their journal remains confidential during review.

Author(s) Responsibilities

The submitted article must be originally written by the author(s). Thoughts, suggestions and sources must be accurate and there must be no plagiarism in the article.
The author(s) must declare that they have individually participated in the study and that they take all responsibility for this study.
The author(s) must declare that they have seen and approved the final version of the submitted article and that the article has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
The author(s) declare that the text, figures and documents contained in the article do not violate the copyrights of other parties; He accepts that Art-ekin Journal and the journal editors have no responsibility for claims or lawsuits to be filed by third parties in cases of violation, and all responsibility belongs to the author(s).

The author(s) owns the copyright on his/her work(s), but the right to publish the article for the first time belongs to Art-ekin Journal; the use of any part of the article in another publication is permitted provided that the journal is cited.
No copyright is paid for articles published in the journal.

Plagiarism Policy
All responsibility of the work belongs to the author(s) and should not contain plagiarism. The plagiarism report obtained from Turnitin or iThenticate programmes must be uploaded to the system as "Additional File" from "Article Files" together with the study. In order for the studies to be evaluated, the Turnitin or iThenticate plagiarism report (excluding references, excluding less than 5 words, including citations) must be 15% or less. The rate of utilisation of the same study should be maximum 3%. Studies with a similarity rate above these rates or without a Turnitin/iThenticate report will be rejected during the preliminary evaluation process.

Political and Commercial Concerns

The editor should follow the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) recommendations for disclosure of potential conflicts of interest by author(s) and reviewers.

Price Policy

No fee is charged under any name from the author(s) or the organisations they work for.

Complaints Procedure

The editor follows the procedure specified in the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) flowchart regarding complaints.

Privacy Policy

All articles sent to Art-ekin Journal are considered confidential documents and are not shared with anyone without the permission of the author(s).
