A Comparison Based On Freedom House Freedom Index Data: Romania – Mongolia
Abstract
Freedom House was founded in New York, USA in 1941 with the aim of strengthening and protecting democracy and supported America's participation in World War II and the fight against Nazism. Continuing its activities aimed at developing global democracy and fighting against authoritarianism, the organization currently publishes reports showing how countries comply with the criteria of democracy in political, civil and legal terms under the name of the "Freedom House Freedom Index". Romania and Mongolia were the subjects of the study conducted in accordance with these data. Freedom House organizes its methodology in preparing its reports for countries under 7 main headings consisting of Political Rights, Political Pluralism and Participation, Functioning of Government, Civil Liberties, Association and Organizational Rights, Rule of Law and Personal Autonomy and Individual Rights. The study conducted a literature review and used Freedom House Freedom Index data. The purpose of this study is to understand how both Romania and Mongolia, countries that were under the direct influence of the Soviet Union until its dissolution from a political and economic perspective, created the image of a democratic country by comparing them based on Freedom House data.
