Abstract

People conduct the perception process through a much more complex set of senses than is commonly known. During this process, they attribute meaning to their surroundings as they perceive them, shaping their behaviors accordingly. Numerous studies have examined people's basic senses and spatial perception processes. Humans possess additional senses beyond their fundamental ones. This study examines the impact of human senses on environmental perception using public spaces as an example. Human senses were evaluated in eight categories. This research aimed to assess the impact of conscious and subconscious senses on public space perceptions by reviewing past research and conducting a field study focusing on two selected senses. For this purpose, one conscious sense and one unconscious sense were selected. Perceptual maps, motion maps, surveys, and word cloud analysis methods were used to measure the impact of the selected senses on spatial perception. The maps were overlaid, and results were obtained by analyzing surveys using Excel and the word cloud using MAXQDA. The data showed a link between spatial awareness and the chosen senses.

Kamusal Mekânların Duyular ile Algılanması: Haliç Kıyı Park Örneği
