İşyeri Nezaketsizliğinin Çalışan Sessizliğine Etkisinde Ruminasyonun Aracı Rolü

Öz

İş yaşamında çalışan davranışlarını olumsuz etkileyen konulardan biri olan işyeri nezaketsizliği, işyerinde saygı kurallarını çiğneyen, belirsiz bir amaçla sergilenen, iletişim esnasında karşıdaki kişiye zarar veren ve düşük yoğunluğa sahip kaba davranışlar olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, işyeri nezaketsizliğinin çalışan sessizliği üzerindeki etkisinde ruminasyonun aracı rolünü incelemektir. Değişkenler arası ilişkileri incelemek amacıyla kesitsel nicel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri, anket yöntemi kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini İzmir ilinde eğitim sektöründe görev yapan 409 katılımcı oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılardan anket yöntemiyle toplanan verilerin analizinde, Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli (YEM) yöntemi benimsenmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre, işyeri nezaketsizliğinin çalışan sessizliği ve ruminasyonu pozitif yönlü etkilediği; ruminasyonun ise çalışan sessizliğini pozitif yönlü etkilediği görülmüştür. Ayrıca, dolaylı etki analizi bulgularına göre çalışanların ruminatif düşüncelerinin işyeri nezaketsizliği ile çalışan sessizliği arasındaki ilişkide kısmi aracılık rolünün olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçların örgütsel davranış alanında özellikle ruminasyon kavramıyla ilgili gelişmekte olan literatüre özgün katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

The Mediator Role of Rumination in the Effect of Workplace Incivility on Employee Silence

Öz

Workplace incivility, which is one of the matters that negatively affects employee behavior in business life, is defined as low-intensity rude behavior that violates the rules of respect in the workplace, is displayed for an unclear purpose, harms the other person during communication. The purpose of this research is to examine the mediating role of rumination in the effect of workplace incivility on employee silence. Cross-sectional quantitative research method was used to examine the relationships between variables. Research data was collected using the survey method. The sample of the research consists of 409 participants who work in the education sector in Izmir city of Turkey. The data were analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach. According to the research findings, workplace incivility has a positive effect on employee silence and rumination; rumination has a positive effect on employee silence. Additionally, according to the indirect effect analysis findings, it was observed that employees' ruminative thoughts had a partial mediating role in the relationship between workplace incivility and employee silence. It is thought that the results obtained in the study will make an original contribution to the developing literature in the field of organizational behavior, especially on the concept of rumination.
