Case Report

AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal is a periodical publication that provides comprehensive information on the theoretical and applied areas of Clinical Psychology to researchers and practitioners. The primary mission of AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal is to enrich the psychology-based literature in our country, to advance and expand the level of knowledge on Clinical Psychology topics directly or with an interdisciplinary perspective. In this journey, the journal is also aimed to increase the quality and sharing/dissemination of studies that will support the clinical psychology practices and evaluations conducted in our country by taking a broad perspective.

With the aforementioned objectives, AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal accepts original articles from various subfields of psychology and social sciences, particularly clinical psychology, which contain discussions and/or suggestions regarding clinical research and practices, and encompassing the literature of the psychology field. There are no restrictions on the method and methodology of these articles; both qualitative and quantitative methods are accepted. The types of studies included in AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal are theoretical reviews (preferably supported by case studies), research articles (conducted with quantitative or qualitative research methods), work of art reviews (films, books, music, theater, etc.), and case presentations.

ARTICLE TYPES

Within the scope of the AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal, the following types of articles are accepted: theoretical reviews (preferably supported by case studies), research articles, reviews of works (such as films, books, music, theatre, etc.), and case presentations.
In addition to international literature, articles submitted to our journal are encouraged to review national literature related to the topic. In this regard, it is also recommended to examine previous issues of the AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal.
Manuscripts submitted for evaluation must be prepared in accordance with the following structure.

1. Theoretical Review: These articles are literature reviews within the framework of psychological theories from all fields of psychology that contribute to the study and practice of clinical psychology. It is preferable that the articles are supported by case presentations.
2. Research Article: These are articles conducted with quantitative or qualitative research methods, including sections such as literature review, the aim and importance of the study, methodology, findings, and discussion.
3. Work Review: These are articles that analyze works such as films, books, music, theatre, etc., within the framework of psychological theories.
4. Case Presentation: These are articles presenting clinical cases that include the psychotherapy process, case characteristics, and clinical recommendations. It is advised that the demographic and identifying information of the case be altered before presentation.

The required structure for each section is outlined below:

1. Cover Page: Should include a short title, main title, and author and institutional information. Authors' full names must be presented each on a separate line, followed by their institutional affiliations (e.g., Middle East Technical University, Department of Psychology, Ankara, Turkey). Shared institutions should be indicated with superscript numbers (1) and presented concisely. The corresponding author should be marked with an asterisk (*) and specified as “corresponding author e-mail: ….” below. All this information should be centered on the page and capitalized appropriately. The title should summarize the main topic of the study. The short title must be under 50 characters and appear in uppercase in the top left corner of every page.

d. Extended Abstract in Turkish: At the end of the manuscript, on a new page, an extended abstract of 500–700 words should be provided. For articles in English, the extended abstract should be in Turkish. Below the heading “Özet,” the article’s title in Turkish should also be included.

CITATION AND REFERENCE RULES ACCORDING TO APA 7 GUIDELINES

References should be included at the very end of the main text, on a separate page. The responsibility for ensuring that all in-text citations have a corresponding entry in the reference list lies with the author(s). Additionally, authors are expected to follow citation, referencing, and in-text citation rules according to the language of the manuscript. These rules are explained in detail and exemplified below. For more information, visit: https://apastyle.apa.org/

1. In-Text Citations
According to APA, sources can be cited in three ways: direct quotation, block quotation, and paraphrasing. In all three methods, the author's name and publication year should be given in parentheses.

Direct Quotation: Citations of fewer than 40 words are considered direct quotations. These are embedded in the text and enclosed in quotation marks. The author's name, year, and page number must be included. If the quoted text is just on one page it can be written as (p. 53) while quotations that are on multiple pages should be written as (pp. 34–36)
Block Quotation: Citations longer than 40 words should be formatted as block quotes without quotation marks. They must include the author's name, year, and page number. The same formatting applies for page references as noted above. If the quoted text is just on one page it can be written as (p. 53) while quotations that are on multiple pages should be written as (pp. 34–36)
Paraphrasing: This involves the author of the manuscript expressing the ideas of the cited source using their own words, while indicating the original author and year in parentheses.

1.1. Indicating Cited Sources in the Text

The way cited sources are indicated within the text may vary depending on the number of authors, surnames, and publication dates. Examples are provided below.

Important Note: If a citation is placed at the end of a sentence in parentheses, the final punctuation mark (.) must be placed after the closing parenthesis.

1.1.1. In-Text Citation in English-Language Manuscripts and Abstracts

Wilet et al. (2012) suggested that ......... .
• Citing Sources with Overlapping Authors: If most or all of the authors of two different sources are the same, cite enough authors to indicate that the two studies are different. For example, if one of the cited sources has authors Becker, Wiley, Spira, Bradle, McDermott, and Grenn, and the other has authors Becker, Spira, Wiley, Bradley, Green, and McDermott, the two sources are cited as follows:
Becker, Wiley, Spira et al (2012) ............. .

• Citing works by multiple authors with the same surname simultaneously: If a work has co-authors and if any of the authors have the same surname, the initials of the authors with common surnames are written.
...... (C. Smith, 2002; J. A. Smith, 2004).
• Citing more than one publication at a time: If studies by different authors are cited in the same sentence, the author surnames are written in alphabetical order and separated by a semicolon.
......... (Arow, 2011; Smith, 1998; White, 2001).
• Highlighting a publication when citing multiple publications simultaneously: To highlight a citation directly related to the article among the citations, list the cited work first. Other works are preceded by the phrase "see also."
......... (Smith, 1998; see also Arow, 2011; White, 2001).
• Translated sources: When citing translated sources within the text, both the original publication date and the translation date are written, starting with the original publication date of the text.

......... (Piaget, 1966/2000).
• Quoting a Secondary Source: When quoting a secondary source, the primary source is cited in the text or in parentheses. Only the secondary source is listed in the bibliography of the article.

.............................................................................................................. (Lacan, 1956, as cited in Evans, 1966).
• Studies where the date of the cited source is unknown: When citing in the text, "n.d." is written in the section where the year of the source is given, meaning "no date".
............................... (John, n.d.).
According to John (n.d.) ......... .

2. References Section
Except for personal communications, all cited sources must appear in the reference list in alphabetical order. The formatting differs based on source type (book, article, etc.). Be attentive to details such as capitalization, italics, and page numbers. Personal communication is cited only in-text (e.g., Clark, personal communication, May 12, 2009).

2.1. General Rules

• If there are twenty or fewer authors, all author names are listed.
• If there are twenty or more authors, the first nineteen authors are listed, followed by three periods, and the last author's name is added.

Peer Review Policy
a. Double Blind Review Process

Manuscripts evaluations in AYNA Clinical Psychology Journal are conducted within the framework of a double-blind review process. In this context, the identities of the reviewers and authors are kept anonymous throughout the process. In order to ensure anonymity, authors are required to send the cover page containing their credentials (personal information) as a separate file from the article. Also, authors must ensure that their manuscripts are crafted in a manner that does not reveal their identity.

The reviewer evaluation process is carried out within the framework of the steps specified below:

1. The manuscript should be submitted to the journal via the online system (Please create an account on DergiPark, visit journal’s website for detailed information).

2. Editorial board pre-evaluation: Associate Editorial Board Member of the Journal conduct a preliminary evaluation of the submitted manuscript in terms of its quality and content before the peer review process takes place.

3. Assignment of an Editor: An editorial board member, who will oversee the peer review process, is assigned to the article that has passed the associate editorial board's preliminary evaluation.

4. Inviting reviewers for evaluation: The assigned editorial board member invites potential reviewers to the evaluation process based on their research areas/interests. At least two peer reviewers, acknowledged experts in the relevant topic and field of the submissions, are selected by the editor.

5. Reviewers submit their evaluation reports.

6. Informing the authors about the initial decision to publish the article in the journal and sending the referee evaluations to the authors anonymously. All peer review reports are delivered to contributors electronically and anonymously.

7. Controlling whether the author(s) have considered and handled all the reviewer comments with explanations. This is handled by the assigned editorial board member.

8. When necessary, such as in cases where reviewers recommend reevaluation following revisions, the revised manuscript is resubmitted to reviewers for further assessment.

9. Making the final decision on the acceptance of the revised manuscript. Following the review process, the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for determining the publication status of the manuscript submitted to the journal. This decision is informed by the validation of the work, its significance to researchers and readers, feedback from reviewers, and compliance with legal requirements related to copyright infringement and plagiarism. The Editor-in-Chief may seek input from other editors or reviewers when making this decision.

10. If the submitted article is authored by a researcher affiliated at the same institution as the Editor in Chief, to ensure the editorial independence the following steps are taken: For all submissions where the Editor-in-Chief has any institutional or personal connection with the authors, the editorial process is assigned to another Editorial Board member who takes full responsibility for the peer review process and final decision. Particularly for these submissions, the Editor-in-Chief is completely excluded from the reviewer selection, editorial correspondence, and decision-making processes.

b. Conflict of Interest

The journal defines a conflict of interest as any situation where the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board members have co-authorship or prior collaboration with the author(s) within the past three years or any personal or financial relationship that could affect the editorial objectivity. The Journal Editorial Board takes necessary precautions to ensure that there is no conflict of interest during the assignment of editors who will be responsible for monitoring the editorial process. When such a potential conflict is identified with the Editor-in-Chief, the Editor-in-Chief withdraws from the editorial process for that submission and leaves the responsibility to another editor who does not have a conflict of interest with the author(s) of the submitted manuscript, and this process is noted in journal’s internal workflow system.

As for the management of verification of potential conflicts of interest between the authors and the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board members, the members of the Editorial Board check the affiliation and the previous publication history of the author(s) in order to detect any potential conflict of interest. Moreover, authors are asked to declare any conflict of interest during the submission period. When such conflict is detected, the above-mentioned procedure immediately takes place.

Also, if the reviewers identify a potential conflict of interest while evaluating the manuscripts sent to them, they are required to inform the relevant editor and withdraw from their reviewing duties.

c. Disclosure Statement

Ayna Clinical Psychology Journal requests authors of submitted articles to disclose any existing or potential conflicts of interest and to take necessary steps in this regard. Support received from relevant individuals or institutions for a submitted study to our journal should be reported to the Editorial Board. The Disclosure Statement Form, to convey this information, must be signed by all contributing authors  during the article submission process. The Editorial Board, following COPE guidelines, endeavors to address and resolve potential conflicts of interest involving editors, authors, or reviewers.
