Determination of Some Traits on Arrival of Hazelnut at Purchasing Points: The Case of Giresun

Abstract

Objective: This research was to determine the some physical and chemical properties of the Tombul cv, which was purchased by the representatives of Fiskobirlik (F), Soil Products Office (TMO, T), an Private sector (O), which purchase hazelnut in Giresun and its districts. Materials and Methods: In the work, Tombul cv samples taken from of a total of 19 points, including 5 from F, 5 from T, and 9 from O representatives puchase points. Samples taken from each sack with the probe device were collected and mixed in a bucked, and 500 g samples were randomly taken for analysis. For example, 250 g of this samples was used purchase based pricing, and the remain was used to determine the physical traits of nuts and kernel, as well as chemical properties such as free fatty acidity, peroxide, and tancimate value. Results: The difference between the physical and chemical properties of the samples taken from different pointsin the study was found to be statistically significant with minör exceptions (P˂0.01). In the work, the highest percentage was F4 with 58.27% followed by T5 with 57.70%. Interestingly, kernel percentage below 50% were not recorded in any of the samples. Likewise, moisture content of all samples was below 6%. In addition, the highest rancimate value was observed in T1 with 6.19h. Conclusion: As a result, although the Tombul cv at different intake points differ in physical and chemical properties, it was found that sampling was not performed below the hazelnut puschase standards in general. In other words, it can be said that hazelnuts that do not meet the purchasing standards are not purchased.
