Peer Review
Manuscripts submitted to BAROFD are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process. Suitable manuscripts are typically sent to at least two independent expert reviewers to evaluate their scientific quality, originality, methodology, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. All submissions are evaluated objectively and fairly. The journal is committed to ensuring a transparent, unbiased, and confidential review process.
Editorial Independence and Authorship Policy
To ensure editorial independence and scientific integrity, the involvement of editors, editorial board members, and reviewers as authors is limited. Accordingly, no more than 20% of the research articles published in a single issue may include authors who serve as editors, editorial board members, or reviewers.
To promote diversity of authorship and enhance the journal’s national and international visibility, the number of publications by the same corresponding author within a single issue is limited.
All submitted manuscripts are evaluated based on originality, scientific quality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
Online Proof Correction
The corresponding author will receive an e-mail to review the final version of the accepted manuscript via our website or e-mail. Please use this stage only to check typesetting, formatting, completeness, and accuracy of the text, tables, and figures.
Significant changes to the accepted manuscript will only be considered at this stage with the Editor’s approval. It is important that all corrections are sent back in a single communication. Subsequent corrections may not be guaranteed.
Proofreading is entirely the responsibility of the authors, and no further corrections can be made after publication. Our journal is published online only; no printed copies are provided.
Ethical Principles
Bartın Orman Fakültesi Dergisi adopts the standards declared by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) regarding research and publication ethics as fundamental requirements.
Authors must consider the standards declared by YÖK, the recommendations of ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors), and the “International Standards for Editors and Authors” established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) before submitting their manuscripts. In addition, the principles of “Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing” (COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, WAME) are adopted. The use of the “EASE Ethical Checklist for Authors” prepared by the European Association of Science Editors (EASE) is encouraged.
Similarity checks are conducted using Turnitin software to prevent plagiarism and ethical violations. For studies involving human participants, ethical committee approval is mandatory and must comply with international ethical standards and relevant regulations.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authors are deemed to have agreed to comply with the principles of scientific research and publication ethics. They declare that the submitted work is original, that the data are presented accurately and honestly, and that the manuscript has not been previously published nor is it under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Authors confirm that all sources used in the study are properly cited, that no part of the work has been copied wholly or partially from other sources without appropriate attribution, and that the manuscript does not contain plagiarism. They also acknowledge that authorship is based on genuine and significant scientific contributions and is limited to individuals who have substantially contributed to the design of the research, data generation, analysis, or scientific writing.
Authors declare that all necessary ethical approvals have been obtained and that the relevant approval details (name of the committee, date, and approval number) are clearly stated in the manuscript. They also disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that may influence the results of the study.📝 conflicts of interest
Authors are responsible for completing language editing prior to submission, accepting the license agreement, and submitting the manuscript through the online submission system. They acknowledge that submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously constitutes a breach of publication ethics.
The corresponding author guarantees that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agrees to promptly inform the journal editor in the event of a significant error in the published work and to cooperate in the correction or retraction process.
Editors’ Responsibilities
Editors are responsible for maintaining the scientific quality and ethical standards of the journal. They evaluate submitted manuscripts solely on the basis of scientific merit, originality, methodological soundness, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Editors ensure that the peer review process is conducted in a fair, unbiased, confidential, and effective double-blind manner and avoid any form of discrimination during the evaluation process.
Editors take necessary measures to prevent potential conflicts of interest between authors, editors, and other parties involved in the review process. In cases of conflict of interest, they recuse themselves from the editorial process and ensure that all information related to the manuscript is kept confidential prior to publication.
Editors are responsible for preventing ethical misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate authorship, and peer review manipulation. In cases of suspected ethical violations, they initiate the necessary procedures in accordance with international publication ethics guidelines. They safeguard the scientific integrity of published works and ensure that editorial processes are conducted consistently, transparently, and in line with ethical standards under the coordination of the Editor-in-Chief.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
Reviewers are expected to adhere to the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics throughout the evaluation process. Manuscripts should be assessed solely on the basis of their scientific merit, originality, methodology, and contribution to the literature, without regard to the authors’ ethnicity, gender, nationality, institutional affiliation, religious beliefs, or political views.
All manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, disclose, or use any part of the manuscript for personal or academic advantage. Any suspicion of plagiarism, copyright infringement, or other ethical misconduct must be reported immediately to the Editor-in-Chief.
Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists. If a reviewer considers themselves unqualified to evaluate the manuscript or unable to complete the review within the specified timeframe, they should promptly inform the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Reviewers are expected to provide clear, constructive, and objective feedback in an academic manner. Their comments should aim to improve the quality of the manuscript. Reviews should be completed within the designated timeframe.
Reviewers should perform their duties in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and contribute to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly publishing process
Use of AI-Supported Tools
Authors must clearly disclose the use of AI-supported tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, Copilot). AI may be used only for technical support (e.g., language editing, translation, coding assistance) and must not replace scientific content generation, analysis, or interpretation.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and full responsibility remains with the human authors. AI use must be stated in a separate “AI Contribution” section at the end of the manuscript. For detailed information on the use of artificial intelligence tools, please click here.
Ethical Violations Action Plan
BAROFD checks all submissions using similarity detection software (Turnitin, iThenticate). Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, manipulation, salami slicing, fake authorship, peer-review manipulation, and undisclosed conflicts of interest are considered ethical violations.
Allegations are investigated according to international publication ethics guidelines. If violations are confirmed, actions may include rejection, retraction, correction, or editorial notification.
Correction, Retraction, and Expression of Concern Policy
BAROFD may publish a correction, retraction, or expression of concern when necessary to maintain the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. These processes are carried out in accordance with the principles of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) on scientific research and publication ethics, the COPE Retraction Guidelines, the recommendations of ICMJE, the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, WAME), and other relevant international ethical guidelines.
If, after publication, a manuscript is found to contain a significant error, methodological flaw, ethical violation, data reliability issue, or misleading information, the editorial board initiates an investigation. As a result of the investigation, corrections are issued for minor errors that do not invalidate the scientific content of the article. However, in cases of serious ethical misconduct, including data fabrication/manipulation, plagiarism, or issues that compromise the reliability of the work, the article is retracted. In such cases, the reason for retraction is clearly stated, and the article remains accessible in the archive with a clear “retracted” label.
If it is necessary to inform the public while the investigation is ongoing, an expression of concern may be published. These practices are implemented to ensure academic transparency, inform readers, and preserve the integrity of the scholarly record. Throughout the process, the right of all parties to respond is respected, and all procedures are conducted under the responsibility of the editorial board.
Article Processing Charges
BAROFD does not charge any fees to authors at any stage of the publication process. There are no article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, editorial processing fees, peer-review fees, language editing fees, page charges, color charges, or any other hidden costs.
All published articles are made freely available to readers under the open-access model without any subscription or access fees.
