This study has been carried out with the purpose of developing an assessment instrument, which enables a valid and reliable assessment of visual arts teacher candidates’ attitude towards visual arts course. 458 visual arts teacher candidates, enrolled in four different universities in the North-eastern region of Turkey in the academic year of 2016-2017, have participated in the study. In the study, expert opinions have been asked with the purpose of determining the scope and prospect validity of the scale. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) have been carried out in order to determine the factor structure of the scale. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency value has been checked in the reliability analysis of the scale. The value of reliability of the whole scale has been calculated as .70. It has been seen that the calculated validity and reliability coefficients are within reasonable boundaries. The results obtained from material analysis show that items in the scale are all distinguishing. Looking at these results, it can be stated that attitude scale about teaching visual arts course is an assessment instrument producing valid and reliable results and that it can be used with the purpose of assessing the attitudes of teacher candidates.
