Dr. Fatih Dervent is a Professor of Physical Education Teacher Education in the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Marmara University in Istanbul, Türkiye. Dervent is passionate about physical education and teacher education. He started his professional life as a physical education teacher before pursuing his career as an educational researcher. His research has focused on instructional interventions in particular content knowledge workshops designed to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching in physical education. Recently, he has taken part in research efforts to support the effectiveness of an innovative game model named Situated Game Teaching through Set Plays. He is the vice president of the Physical Education Teachers Association of Türkiye (TÜBED), which provides professional development activities nationwide for practicing teachers and preservice teachers. Chief to his responsibilities is working with teachers in
formal and informal professional development contexts to improve instruction in physical education usually in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. He also serves as the editor of the Journal of Physical Education and Sports Studies -an open-access, peer-reviewed bi-annual international online journal- published by TÜBED. He is a co-investigator at the Learning to Teach Physical Education Research Program, which has its central focus on the improvement of pedagogical content knowledge in teaching physical education. The program serves as a platform for collaboration among a group of international researchers to conduct rigorous, often innovative, educationally relevant research on teaching effectiveness in physical education. Dr. Dervent has delivered
invited keynote speeches & talks in the United States, Germany, and Greece. In June 2023, he will be giving an invited presentation at the World Forum on Curricular Models of Teaching in Physical Education in Nanjing, China.
