EXPORT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN TURKISH REPUBLICS: A PANEL COINTEGRATIONAND CAUSALITY ANALYSIS

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the long-run relationship between export and economic growth in the 6 Turkish Republics over the period from 1995 to 2011 by utilizing the Pedroni, Kao and JohansenFisher panel cointegration, Pedroni FMOLS; Pedroni DOLS, VECM and Canning; Pedroni Causality methods. Cointegration test results show that there is a cointegration relationship between export and economic growth in the long run. According to FMOLS results the coefficients of export is 0.40, implying that 100 dollar increase in export will bring about 40 dollarincrease in economic growth. According to DOLS results the coefficients of export is 0.36, implying that 100 dollar increase in export will bring about 36 dollarincrease in economic growth. VECM methods indicate both the short-run and long-run bidirectional causality between export and economic growth. Canning ve Pedroni (2008) causality methods indicate lon-run bidirectional causality between export and economic growth. It is concluded that there is a strong cointegration relationship between export and economic growth in the 6 Turkish Republics in the long-run

TÜRK CUMHURİYETLERİNDE İHRACAT VE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME İLİŞKİSİ: PANEL EŞBÜTÜNLEŞME VE PANEL NEDENSELLİK ANALİZİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı 6 Türk Cumhuriyetinde 1995-2011 dönemi için ihracat ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişkiyi araştırmaktır.Bu amaçla Pedroni, Kaove JohansenFishereşbütünleşme testleri, Pedroni FMOLS, Pedroni DOLS, Panel VECM ve Canning;Pedroni Panel Nedensellik yöntemlerikullanılmıştır. Eşbütünleşme testleri ihracat ve ekonomik büyüme değişkenlerinin uzun dönemde eşbütünleşme ilişkisine sahip olduğu göstermektedir.Panel FMOLS test sonucuna göre ise Panel genelinde ihracatın katsayısı 0.40 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Yani 6 Türk Cumhuriyeti genelinde ihracattaki 100 dolarlık bir artış, ekonomik büyüme üzerinde uzun dönemde yaklaşık olarak 40 dolarlık bir artış meydana getirmektedir. Panel DOLS test sonucuna göre panel genelinde ihracatın katsayısı 0.363 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Yani 6 Türk Cumhuriyeti genelinde ihracattaki 100 dolarlık bir artış, ekonomik büyüme üzerinde uzun dönemde yaklaşık olarak 36 dolarlık bir artış meydana getirmektedir. VECMyöntemi kullanılarak yapılan kısa dönem nedensellik analizi sonuçlarına göre, ihracat ve ekonomik büyüme arasındahem kısa dönemde hem de uzun dönemde çift yönlü nedensellik tespit edilmiştir. Canning ve Pedroni (2008) nedensellik sonuçları ihracat ve büyüme arasında uzun dönemde çift yönlü nedensellik tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak uzun dönemde 6 Türk Cumhuriyetinde ihracat ve ekonomik büyüme değişkenleri arasında karşılıklı olarak anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğu belirtilebilir
