This study aimed to adapt a valid, reliable, and versatile scale into Turkish to measure the factors reported to affect retention and attrition in the refereeing profession. In this context, the "Referee Retention Scale" (RRS) of Ridenger et al. (2017) was adapted into Turkish as the "Hakemlik Mesleğini Sürdürme Ölçeği" (HMSÖ). 222 actively serving referees in 2020-2021 was included in the study. Among the participating referees, there were basketball (50.5%; n=112), soccer (12.6%; n= 28), handball (24.8%; n=55), and volleyball (12.2%; n=27) referees. While 19.8% of the participants (n=44) were females, 80.2% were males. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 21 and AMOS programs. The scale, which was translated into Turkish with the back translation technique, was subjected to a construct validity measurement using principal component analysis and varimax rotation techniques. Criterion validity of HMSÖ was calculated with Pearson's correlation coefficient. The relevant analysis yielded the result of a construct with seven components with eigenvalues greater than 1. While Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficients were calculated for each factor as .88, .79, .70, .80, .70, .78, and .70, respectively, it was the total scale was 83. The CFA analysis revealed the fit indices as x2/df=1.784, RMSEA=.06, CFI=.90, GFI=.85, RMR=.10, NFI=.81, and IFI=90.
