ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LOGO DESIGN: A STUDY ON IDEOGRAM.AI

Abstract

Artificial intelligence tools are widely used in graphic design processes, as in many other fields. When the designs produced by these tools are evaluated in terms of originality, functionality, and design criteria, the results are debatable. The aim of this study is to reveal the extent to which artificial intelligence contributes to the logo design process at both conceptual and technical levels. The research is conducted as a qualitative case study. The logos of Ziraat Bank, Halkbank, Kuru Kahveci Mehmet Efendi, Citi Bank and LG are generated using an artificial intelligence tool called Ideogram.ai by providing prompts that conceptually describe each logo. The results are compared with the original logos based on five key criteria: originality, simplicity, memorability, usability, and message delivery. The research is important in that it aims to understand the role of artificial intelligence tools in the logo design process in terms of idea generation and technical implementation and provides a comparative evaluation with the human design process. The findings show that artificial intelligence is a functional tool in the logo design process in terms of visual diversity and rapid production of design alternatives; however, human creativity and critical evaluation are essential in terms of conceptual depth, cultural references, aesthetic coherence, and usability. These results highlight the necessity of maintaining human oversight and aesthetic guidance when incorporating artificial intelligence as a strategic support in design applications.
