Nurses’ perception of managers’ attitude to patient safety

Abstract

Patient safety necessitates building the systems which prevent the errors that may emerge during healthcare services from occurring in such a way to harm patients and taking necessary measures. For this reason, one of the most significant duties of the hospital management is to establish and develop patient safety. Throughout patient safety, a major part of patient care and medical activities is conducted by nurses. Therefore, this study was performed with the intent of evaluating nurses’ perception of management’s patient safety practices on the grounds that both the number of nurses is high and nurses are a member of the healthcare staff that is object of the patient most. The population of the research comprised of 355 nurses serving at Bulent Ecevit University Practice and Research Hospital. In collecting data, questionnaire forms were used. Factor analysis, ANOVA and t-test were exploited in the statistical analysis of the data. As a result of the conducted statistical analyses, it was found that the management has to lay emphasis on supply factor in terms of patient factor.

Hemşirelerin hasta güvenliği konusunda yöneticilerin tutumunu algılayışı

Abstract

Hasta güvenliği, sağlık bakım hizmetleri sırasında oluşabilecek hataların hastaların zarar görebilecek bir şekilde ortaya çıkmasını engelleyecek sistemleri kurmayı ve gerekli tedbirleri almayı gerektirmektedir. Bu nedenle hastane yönetiminin en önemli görevlerinden biri hasta güvenliği kültürünü kurmak ve geliştirmektir. Hasta güvenliği sürecinde hasta bakım aşamasının ve tıbbi faaliyetlerin büyük bir kısmını hemşireler yürütmektedir. Bu nedenle çalışma, hemşirelerin sayıca yoğun ve hasta ile en fazla muhatap olan sağlık personeli grubu olmaları sebebiyle, hastane yönetiminin hasta güvenliği konusundaki uygulamalarına bakış açısını değerlendirmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini Bülent Ecevit Üniversitesi Uygulama ve Araştırma Hastanesinde görev yapan 355 hemşire oluşturmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında anket formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel çözümlenmesinde ise faktör analizi, ANOVA ve t testinden yararlanılmıştır. Yapılan istatistikî analizler sonucunda hasta güvenliği açısından yönetimin daha çok tedarik faktörü üzerinde durması gerektiği ortaya çıkmıştır.
