Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Statement of Publication Ethics
Journal of Language and Literature Studies: Journal of Language and Literature Studies adheres to the highest standards in publication ethics and adopts the principles of ethical publishing published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA); for the principles expressed in Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing: https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines-new/principles-transparency-and-best-practice-scholarly-publishing
The publication processes of the Journal of Language and Literature Studies are based on the unbiased production, development and sharing of knowledge with the scientific method. Refereed articles are studies that ensure the application of the scientific method and impartiality. In the realisation of scientific production, all components of the publication process; publisher, editors, authors, referees and readers must comply with ethical principles. Submitted articles must be appropriate to the purpose and scope of the journal. Original, unpublished manuscripts that are not in the evaluation process in another journal and whose content and submission have been approved by each author are accepted for evaluation.

Plagiarism
All articles submitted to the Journal of Language and Literature Studies are pre-checked and scanned with the software programme Intihal.net. At the article submission stage, authors are also requested to obtain a similarity report for their articles and upload it to the system. Articles with a similarity rate of 20% or less are accepted. Articles exceeding this rate are examined in detail and if deemed necessary, they are sent back to the authors for revision or correction, and if plagiarism or unethical behaviour is detected, publication is rejected.
High similarity ratios may cause an article to be rejected before or even after acceptance. The concept of similarity mentioned here refers to a different phenomenon than plagiarism. Even if the similarity rate is not high, the detection of the slightest issue that can be considered as ethical violation/plagiarism in the study is a direct reason for rejection.

Double Blind Review
All articles submitted to the Journal of Language and Literature Studies are evaluated through a double blind review process. Double blind refereeing means that the authors are kept confidential from the referees and the referees are kept confidential from the authors in order to ensure an unbiased, objective and independent evaluation process.
After the plagiarism check, eligible manuscripts are evaluated by the editor-in-chief in terms of originality, methodology, importance of the topic covered and compatibility with the scope of the journal. The editor ensures that the manuscripts undergo a fair double blind review and if the manuscript meets the formal requirements, the editor submits the manuscript to the evaluation of at least two referees from Turkey and / or abroad, and if the referees deem necessary, they approve the publication of the manuscript after the requested changes are made by the authors. If one of the referees expresses a negative opinion, the manuscript is forwarded to a third referee. If both referees express a negative opinion, the manuscript is rejected.

Special Issue Publication Policy
A special issue can be published once a year upon the request of the Editorial Board. Articles submitted for inclusion in the special issue are first subjected to a preliminary editorial review. Then, they are examined for compliance with the journal's spelling rules and similarity screening is performed to prevent plagiarism. After these stages, it is taken into the evaluation process in which the double blinded model is used.

Research Ethics
The journal upholds the highest standards of research ethics and it is the authors' responsibility to ensure that manuscripts comply with ethical guidelines. Some behaviours that are considered unethical are listed below:
• Citing people as authors who have not contributed intellectually to the study.
• Failure to acknowledge as an author people who have contributed intellectually to the study.
• Failure to indicate if the article is derived from the author's master's/doctoral thesis or a project.
• Slicing, i.e. publishing more than one article from a single study.
• Failure to declare conflicts of interest regarding submitted manuscripts.
• Deciphering the double blind review process.

Responsibility of the Author(s)
In order to be published, articles must not have been previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere. Articles that have been previously published elsewhere are not included in the journal. Papers presented at a scientific meeting may be accepted in limited numbers, provided that they are unpublished and this is clearly stated. The ethical responsibility of such articles belongs to the author of the article.
All sources (authors, online pages, personal interviews, etc.) used in the articles should be cited correctly and appropriately.
A Copyright Transfer Agreement must be filled in, indicating that the articles submitted to the journal have not been submitted to another journal, and a plagiarism report must be uploaded by the author when submitting the article.
In case the author(s) are asked for information or raw data about their articles during the evaluation process, they should submit the expected information to the Editors.
The author(s) should contact the editor to inform, correct or retract any errors in the manuscript that are in the review and early view stage or that have been published electronically.
Authors have the right to object to the referee reports with justification if they disagree with them. Manuscripts not accepted for publication will not be returned to their authors.
The copyright of the manuscripts accepted for publication in Language and Literature Studies is deemed to be transferred to the Turkish Language and Literature Association. The responsibility of the opinions in the published articles belongs to the authors.
The legal responsibilities arising from the content of the works published in the journal belong entirely to the author(s).

Editor and Referee Responsibilities
The editors are responsible for each publication in the Journal of Language and Literature Studies and evaluate the articles objectively in accordance with scientific and ethical rules. They ensure that manuscripts submitted for publication undergo a fair double blind peer review process and guarantee that all information about submitted manuscripts will remain confidential until the manuscript is published. Editors are responsible for the content and overall quality of the publication. They should publish an error page or make corrections when necessary.
The editor does not allow any conflict of interest between authors, editors and referees. He/she has full authority to appoint referees and is responsible for making the final decision about the articles to be published in the journal.
Reviewers evaluate the articles objectively in accordance with scientific and ethical rules. Reviewers should not have any conflicts of interest with the authors and/or financial supporters of the research and should make an impartial judgement at the end of their evaluation. Referees are required to fill in the Referee Evaluation Form for the articles they evaluate. The referees are also required to indicate their decision on whether the manuscript is publishable or not and the reasons for their decision in this form.
The style used by the referees in their suggestions should be polite, respectful and scientific. Reviewers should avoid subjective comments. When referees are found to make such unscientific comments, they may be contacted by the editor or the editorial board to review and correct their comments.
Reviewers should ensure that all information regarding submitted manuscripts is kept confidential and should report to the editor if they notice any copyright infringement or plagiarism on the part of the author. If the referee does not feel that he/she has sufficient field knowledge about the subject of the article or feels that he/she cannot respond in a timely manner, he/she should inform the editor of this situation and ask him/her not to be included in the refereeing process.
Referees and members of the editorial board may not discuss manuscripts submitted to the journal with other persons. Reviewers are not allowed to make copies of the manuscripts for themselves and may not give the manuscripts to anyone else without the permission of the editor. The reviews of the referees cannot be printed and disclosed without the permission of the author and the editor. Care should be taken to keep the identity of the reviewers confidential.
