THE EFFECTS OF EMPLOYEES' FEAR OF COVID-19 ON THE WORKPLACE SAFETY CLIMATE: AN APPLIED STUDY
Abstract
In the research, the effect of employees' COVID-19 anxiety on workplace safety climate was examined in line with the occupational safety climate theory, Psychological Contract Theory and Stress Management Model. The research was carried out with 388 data collected by questionnaire method from healthcare professionals in Kahramanmaraş. Two separate structural models were used to examine the effects of COVID-19 phobia on safety climate and its various components. The findings obtained from the analyses showed that COVID-19 phobia has a significant effect on the perception of safety climate, especially affecting sub-dimensions such as the manager's perspective and compliance with safety rules. In addition, COVID-19 phobia was found to affect the training of colleagues and general safety practices. The research offers a new perspective by emphasizing the role of managerial perspective and rules and the role of colleague and safety training in this relationship. The study provides important information that can help employers and managers develop effective strategies and policies to cope with COVID-19 phobia. The findings contribute to the literature on the subject and provide a basis for future studies.
