THE IMPACT OF PERCEIVED SUPPORT ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTIONS: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF PERSONAL ATTITUDE

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of perceived support on university students’ entrepreneurial intentions and the mediating role of personal attitude. The research model proposes that educational, structural, and relational support influence entrepreneurial intention directly and indirectly through personal attitude. Perceived support was measured through educational, structural, and relational support; entrepreneurial intention and personal attitude were assessed using established scales. Data were collected from 402 students at Marmara University and Istanbul Kent University through convenience sampling. Exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and mediation analysis were used to test the hypotheses. The findings show that all three support dimensions positively affect entrepreneurial intention. Structural and relational support significantly predict personal attitude, whereas educational support does not have a significant unique effect in the joint regression model. Personal attitude has a positive effect on entrepreneurial intention and partially mediates the relationships between the support dimensions and entrepreneurial intention.
