KMU EFAD Article Evaluation and Publication Process
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of the Faculty of Letters (KMÜ EFAD) includes articles written in Turkish and English, bringing innovation to the field, original and qualified, filling a gap in its field, evaluating new findings, presenting new approaches or suggestions, studies that are handled with a scientific method or evaluating previously published studies, presenting new views on this subject. The articles submitted to KMÜ EFAD, Journal of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Letters must not have been previously published in another journal/book or applied for publication in order to be published in the journal. If legal permission(s) related to the subject of the article are required, the author(s) should also send the permission document or documents during the application. In order for the article to be evaluated, the source information of the images included in the study should be clearly stated, and if necessary, permission documents should be attached.
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Faculty of Literature (KMÜ EFAD) has been operating a two-stage process, namely "Editorial Review" and "Referee Evaluation", in the evaluation of articles submitted to the journal since 2018. Editorial review is a stage carried out by the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors and Field Editors. Referee Review is the process in which at least two referees who are experts in their fields evaluate the article with the "double-blind refereeing" method.
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Literature Journal (KMÜ EFAD) will not accept more than one article application from one author for the same issue. In addition, starting in 2023, the same author's article will not be included in two consecutive issues. If the article is co-authored and the author whose article was published in the previous issue is the 2nd or 3rd author, the article will be evaluated.
Article submissions received after 15 May for the 1st Ordinary June issue and 15 November for the 2nd Ordinary December issue will be considered for the next issue. Articles that have been submitted before these dates, but the evaluation process has not been completed by the publication date of the Ordinary issues, will also be evaluated for the next issue.
Refereeing Type: Double-blind review
Review Time: Pre-publication
Number of Reviewers: Editorial Review + at least Two Peer Reviewers
Author-Referee Interaction: Mediates all interactions between the Editor and Deputy Editors, Area Editors, reviewers and authors.
Referee Interaction: Reviewers can only communicate with Editors and Associate Editors.
Time in Review: Average 70 Days / 10 Weeks
Plagiarism Prevention Similarity Screening: In progress - Ithenticate or Turnitin
Decision: In order for the article to be accepted for publication by the Editor, at least two referees must give a favourable opinion.
Suspicion of Ethical Violation: Reviewers should inform the Editor if they suspect misconduct in the research or publication. The Editor is responsible for taking the necessary actions in accordance with COPE recommendations. Articles suspected of serious research misconduct may also be seen by the ethics editor of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Literature and third parties deemed appropriate by the editor.

https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/efad as they are prepared. After publication, the articles are selected for the next issue. Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Literature Journal (KMÜ EFAD) provides open access to articles as part of its commitment to readers and authors. All articles are freely accessible online.
Editorial Review
Preliminary Review and Plagiarism Check: The Editor reviews each article submitted to the journal for its suitability to the focus and scope of the journal and adherence to ethical standards in research and writing. Articles that comply with the journal's publication policy are forwarded to the relevant Assistant Editor for editorial review. The Deputy Editor reviews the manuscript for compliance with the journal's editorial guidelines and subjects the manuscript to Ithenticate or Turnitin scanning for plagiarism detection. A text similarity of less than 15% (excluding bibliography) is acceptable to the journal, and a similarity of >25% is considered a high plagiarism percentage. However, even in the case of 15% similarity, if the matching text is a continuously borrowed block of material, it will be considered a significantly plagiarised text. If the manuscript is found unsuitable for peer review, the Editor will contact the author to inform them of the decision.
Referee Evaluation
Manuscripts submitted to the journal for publication are sent to at least two referees who are experts in their fields using the "double-blind peer-review" method. For this reason, the identity of the internal referees is not shared with the author(s) and the identity of the author(s) is not shared with the internal referees during the process. The identity of the referees and authors can only be seen by the editors. Referees evaluate the article in terms of subject, method and results and decide whether the article can be included in the detailed review process. Referees who accept the review are expected to complete their evaluation within the time allocated to them. In special cases, additional time may be given to the referee for evaluation. In case one of the referees gives a negative opinion, the manuscript is submitted to the opinion of a third referee. In order for the article to be published, at least two referees must give a favourable opinion. The referees can accept the manuscript;
Can accept the article directly: These articles are published as accepted.
Accept with minor (minor) revisions: Articles are returned to the relevant authors for minor revision. Resubmitted articles are published without further peer review. However, the Editor may request additional review or comments from the Editorial Board Members on the revised article if deemed necessary.
He/she may propose major revisions (referees re-examine the manuscript): Manuscripts for which major revisions are requested are returned to the relevant authors for full revision. The manuscript resubmitted by the author is resubmitted to both referees for full review. At the end of this process, the referee(s) reorganise the Referee Evaluation Form to indicate the acceptance or rejection decision and the reasons for their decisions are explained here.
Rejection: Rejected articles are reported in detail and this report is shared with the author by the Editor.
The referees evaluate the article in terms of originality, method, regularity of the findings, consistent presentation of the results, contribution to the field and compliance with ethical principles and fill out the "KMÜ EFAD Referee Evaluation Form". The referee report includes evaluations on the following issues:
- Purpose of the article
- Importance of the subject
- Contribution to the field
- Method
- Result achieved
- Appropriateness of citations in the text
- Sources
Referee opinions are the main determinant of the publication quality of the Journal of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Letters. The final decision on the manuscript is made by the Editor and/or Editors. Depending on this process, the final result of the publication is notified to the author within four months.
Referee Process Principles for the Work of Editorial Staff and Journal Editorial Board Members
Editorials and analysis articles written by the editors of the Journal of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Letters are not subject to peer review. Original research articles written by the Editors and Editorial Board Members of the Journal are sent to at least two referees within the scope of double-blind refereeing. The roles of the relevant Editors and Editorial Board Members are suspended until the process is completed.
Proofreading Phase
If the referees request revisions to the text, the relevant reports are sent to the author and the author is asked to revise the manuscript. Authors should treat this feedback as a response to the reviewers. The response to the reviewers indicates how the authors have addressed each comment made by the reviewers. The response to reviewers is usually organised by presenting the reviewers' comments one by one, followed by the authors' responses. The author proofreads the manuscript in Word with the "Track Changes" feature turned on or indicates the changes in the text in red. He/she submits the revised text to the field editor.
At the allocation stage of the article, you should
- Address all points raised by the editor and referees.
- Identify the main revisions to your article and then respond point by point to the comments made.
- Provide sufficient explanation for your agreement or disagreement with the referees' recommendations.
- Respond politely and scientifically to points or comments with which you disagree.
- Distinguish between the referee's comments and the response letter.
- Clearly indicate significant corrections to the text by highlighting the changes in a different coloured text or by using Microsoft Word's Track Changes feature.
- Return the corrected manuscript and the response letter within the time allotted by the editor.
Publication Phase and Post-Publication Process
Turkish Language/Spelling Control: All manuscripts whose referee process is favourable are reviewed by the Turkish Language/Spelling Editor appointed by the Editor or Deputy Editor, and if necessary, the author is asked to proofread the manuscript.
Foreign Language/English Language Control: All manuscripts that pass the Turkish language/spelling check are reviewed by the Foreign Language/English Language Editor appointed by the Editor or Deputy Editor and, if necessary, corrections are requested from the author. If the author wishes, a professional service can be hired for this purpose.
Typesetting and Layout: After the referee process is completed and the article is decided to be published, it is sent to the publication unit for graphic and design processes. Editors send authors a PDF copy of the layout, including figures, for approval before publication. After the proofreading and typesetting stages are completed and the final version is approved by the authors, the articles are published online on the journal website.
Copyright: Copyright transfer agreements are signed with the author(s). Copyright of the published articles belongs to the authors and the articles are open access under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence.
Post-Publication Comments: Articles published in Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Journal of Faculty of Letters are promoted on social media platforms and interaction is monitored.
Data Submission to National and International Directories: All issues of the Journal of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University Faculty of Letters are archived in the Electronic Publication Compilation System (EYDeS) of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, National Library. The published issue is sent to the Electronic Publication Compilation System (EYDeS) of the National Library within 60 days as a single copy. Article data are sent to the relevant indexes within 15 days.
