Blind Review and Evaluation Process

Blind review is a method used to publish scientific publications with the highest quality. This method forms the basis of the process of objective evaluation of scientific studies and is preferred by many scientific journals. Referee opinions have a decisive place in the publication quality of the Journal of History Studies. All studies sent to the Journal of Historical Studies are evaluated blindly according to the stages specified below.

Blind Review Type

Journal of Historical Studies uses the double blind method in the evaluation process of all studies. In the double-blind method, the identities of the authors and referees of the studies are hidden.

Initial Evaluation Process

Studies sent to the Journal of Historical Studies are first evaluated by the editors. At this stage, studies that do not comply with the purpose and scope of the journal, are weak in terms of language and expression rules in Turkish and/or English, contain scientifically critical errors, do not have original value and do not meet the publication policies are rejected. Studies deemed appropriate are sent to an Editorial Board member for the field the study is related to for preliminary evaluation.

Pre-Evaluation Process

During the pre-evaluation process, the field expert journal editorial board member examines the introduction and literature, method, findings, results, evaluation and discussion sections of the studies in detail in terms of journal publication policies and scope, as well as originality. Works deemed inappropriate as a result of this review will be returned. Studies that are deemed appropriate are taken into the refereeing process.

Refereeing Process

Studies are reviewed according to their content and the referees' areas of expertise. The editorial board member of the journal who is an expert in the field of the study recommends at least two referees from the referee pool of the Journal of History Reviews, according to their fields of expertise, or may suggest new referees suitable for the field of the study. Referee suggestions coming from field expert journal editorial board members are evaluated by the editors and the studies are forwarded to the referees. Referees must guarantee that they will not share any processes or documents about the studies they evaluate.

Referee Reports

Referee evaluations generally include; It is based on originality, the method used, compliance with ethical rules, consistent presentation of findings and results and examination of the literature. This review is done based on the following factors:

Introduction and literature: The evaluation report includes opinions about the presentation and objectives of the problem addressed in the study, the importance of the subject, the scope of the literature on the subject, its currentness and the originality of the study.
Method: the evaluation report includes information on the appropriateness of the method used, selection and characteristics of the research group, validity and reliability, as well as an opinion on the data collection and analysis process.
Findings: The evaluation report includes opinions on the presentation of the findings obtained within the framework of the method, the accuracy of the analysis methods, the consistency of the findings with the aims of the research, providing the necessary tables, figures and visuals, and the conceptual evaluation of the tests used.
Evaluation and discussion: the evaluation report includes a discussion of the topic based on the findings, opinion regarding suitability to the research question/s and hypothesis/s, generalizability and applicability.
Conclusion and recommendations: the evaluation report includes opinions about contributions to the literature, suggestions for future studies and applications in the field.
Style and expression: the evaluation report includes opinions about the content of the study title, the appropriate use of Turkish, and the appropriate language of the full text in line with the examples under the title of Journal publication principles.
General evaluation: the evaluation report includes an opinion about the originality of the study as a whole and its contribution to the literature and practices in the field.
During the evaluation process, referees are not expected to make corrections based on the typographic features of the work.

Referee Evaluation Process

The time given to referees for the referee evaluation process is 6 weeks. Correction suggestions coming from referees or expert editorial board members must be completed by the authors within 1 month in line with the "correction directive". Referees may review the corrections of a study and decide on its suitability, or may request corrections more than once if necessary.

Evaluation Result

Opinions from the referees are reviewed by the editors within 2 weeks at the latest. As a result of this review, editors make their final decision regarding the study.

Editorial Board Decision

Editors prepare the editorial board opinions regarding the study based on the opinions of the referees. The prepared opinions are forwarded to the author(s) by the editor, together with the referee suggestions, within 1 week at the latest. During this process, works for which negative opinions are given are returned without requesting a plagiarism check. The final decision for works for which a positive opinion is given is made according to the results of the plagiarism audit reports.

How Long Does the Publication Evaluation Process Take?
It is anticipated that the publication evaluation process of studies sent to the Journal of Historical Studies will be finalized within approximately 6 months. However, the period between the date the referees or editors requested corrections from the author(s) and the date the author(s) completed the corrections is not included in this 6-month period.

Objecting to the Evaluation Result
The author(s) reserves the right to object to the evaluation result in the Journal of Historical Studies. The author(s) must e-mail the grounds for objection regarding the opinions and comments resulting from the evaluation of their work, in scientific language and with reference to their basis, to "tarihincelemeleri@gmail.com". The objections made are reviewed by the editors within one month at the latest (opinions may be requested about the objections made to the referees of the study) and the author(s) receive a positive or negative response. If the author(s) objections to the evaluation result are found positive, the editorial board restarts the evaluation process by making a new referee appropriate to the subject area of ​​the study.

Post-Acceptance
Studies accepted as a result of evaluation in the Journal of History Studies are respectively; It goes through the processes of checking for plagiarism, editing the bibliography, checking the submission and citation, making the layout and typesetting, and giving the DOI number. Since the Journal of History Studies does not charge an article processing fee (evaluation fee or printing fee) or a subscription fee for access to articles, it has no source of income. However, the financial liabilities of the studies accepted as a result of the evaluation regarding some of the following headings are the responsibility of the author(s).

Giving the DOI Number
Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a unique access number that allows identification and access of every work published electronically. After the acceptance stage, DOI numbers are given by the editorial board to the studies for which plagiarism control, bibliography control and print versions are prepared.

Language Regulation
Studies submitted to the Journal of Historical Studies must have a simple and clear language quality, in accordance with the grammatical rules and scientific literature of the full text language (Turkish or English). Studies should be written in a clear and fluent language, free of foreign words. In this context, having the studies edited before being sent for evaluation ensures that the publication processes are carried out in a healthier way.
The editorial board may request language editing services during the evaluation process of the submitted works or after the acceptance stage.
