Aaron M. Bittel is Director of the World Music Archives and Music Librarian at Wesleyan University, where he works to promote creative ways of engaging with a diverse collection of cultural heritage materials, from unique to common. Previously, he served as Archivist-Librarian and Head of Digital Projects at the UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive, and was also an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses on audiovisual archives and oral history at UCLA. He has regularly contributed to the cultural collections field, especially in the areas of education and training, and research archives, as part of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC), the Music Library Association (MLA), and the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA). Aaron is also an active musician with scholarly and performing interests in free reed instruments and traditional musics of Quebec, Ireland, and the Balkans.

Lisans eğitimini 1983 yılında Hacettepe Üniversitesi Felsefe Bölümü’nde tamamlamıştır. Aynı dönemde Hacettepe Üniversitesi’nde Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik sertifika programını tamamlamış; ayrıca Hacettepe Üniversitesi Müzik ve Güzel Sanatlar Enstitüsünde müzik eğitimi almıştır.
Yüksek Lisansını 1992’de, Doktora’sını ise 1998’de Ankara Üniversitesi Dil ve Tarih Coğrafya Fakültesi Halkbilimi Ana Bilim Dalında tamamlamış; 2008 yılında Sosyal-Kültürel Antropoloji-Etnomüzikoloji alanında Doçentlik ünvanını almış 2016 yılında da Profesör olmuştur.
“Kültürel Müzikoloji”, “Söz ve Müzik Uyumu, Karacaoğlanın Bestelenmiş eserleri” kitaplarının yanısıra yurtiçi ve yurt dışında yayınlanmış çok sayıda inceleme ve makalesi bulunmaktadır. Almanya Berlin “ Schöenberg Musik Okulu”nda Türk ve Batı Müziği Sentezi konusunda çalışmalar yapmıştır.

As the peer-reviewed scientific journal Ethnomusicology Journal (Turkey) published by Association of Ethnomusicology which is a non-profit organization in Turkey. Journal aims to publish advanced researches in the ethnomusicology field. Its articles represent current theoretical perspectives and
research in ethnomusicology and related fields. 

Ethnomusicology Journal has been published two times a year. The publication language of the journal is Turkish and English. The journal can include ethnomusicology and in other branches of musicology are articles on the basis of original research-based or theoretical articles, articles from postgraduate theses, interviews, reviews about published books and music recordings. Translations of previously published articles are not considered. Contributors do not have to be members of the association. Articles and interviews should be in accordance with the previously announced theme of the journal. Writings to be submitted to the journal must comply with the following writing rules. Writings sent to the journal will be examined with double-blind peer-reviewing system. The editorial order of the manuscripts is as follows: Editor in Chief and editorial board (general), technical editor (writing rules), referees (content), Editor in Chief and editorial board (final decision). Any manuscript that does not comply with the writing rules can be sent to the author for correction after a technical editor review. Written articles that are found to be corrected can be re-evaluated. The copyright of the texts published in the journal belongs to the Association of Ethnomusicology. The authors are deemed to have accepted it when they sent their writings. The journal is scanned ASOS Index.

Title
Each article must have a title not exceeding fifteen words in the language it was written in. The main title and subtitles must be written in capital letters, Times New Roman font, bold and centered on the page. Subtitles must be aligned with the TAB key and in paragraph alignment. For postgraduate thesis articles, a footnote must be placed at the end of the main title and the phrase “produced from the master's or doctoral thesis of the first author” must be included, and the relevant thesis information must be provided in the bibliography.

Author Name and Address
Name and Surname must be written under the article title and aligned to the right. The author's title, institution and e-mail address must be stated in the footnote. (Articles produced from postgraduate thesis must have advisor approval and be with two authors. Advisor names must be listed second)

Abstract and Keywords
In Turkish articles, there must be an abstract in Turkish and English, and in English articles, there must be only English and between 100-150 words. Turkish keywords consisting of 5 words must be written below the abstract. In addition, the English versions of the abstract, title and keywords must also be included.

Main Text
Articles should be written without page numbers, using Microsoft Word and Times New Roman font. Articles should be written in a clear and plain manner in line with a specific problem/purpose and method. An article should include the abstract, main text sections -including Introduction and Conclusion-, bibliography and appendices, if any. The introduction should include information on the problem/purpose and method of the article topic, and the use of other subheadings should be determined according to the type of study and the requirements of the subject.

Footnotes should not be used in the text, and the article should be included under the notes heading before the bibliography.

Figures, tables and photographs
Figures, tables and photographs (high resolution and JPG) should not extend beyond the writing area, should be numbered and should be named according to the article writing language. Figure and photograph numbers and names should be written below the image, and table numbers and names should be written above the image.

Citing Sources
All source citing formats should be made according to the APA 7.0 edition, the link to which is given below. However, citations should not be shown as footnotes, but in the text as (Surname, Year: page).

Ethical Rules
The Journal of Ethnomusicology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Ethnomusicology Association in accordance with the ethical principles and rules set out below, with the aim of publishing high-quality scientific articles in the field of ethnomusicology, musicology, anthropology and related disciplines.

• Articles submitted to the Journal of Ethnomusicology are evaluated through a double-blind process and are published electronically and in print with free access.

• The ethical responsibilities, roles and duties of authors, journal editors, referees and publishers are listed below. The ethical principles and rules below have been prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
• On the other hand, information is provided regarding the situations that are considered plagiarism and unethical behaviors in the Journal of Ethnomusicology.
Author's responsibilities:
• Articles submitted to the journal of Ethnomusicology must have methodological qualifications made in the specified fields.
• All sources used in the articles (authors, online pages, personal interviews, etc.) must be cited correctly and appropriately.
• It must be stated that the articles submitted to the journal have not been sent to another journal and the authors must accept in writing that the copyright of the article whose publication has been finalized has been transferred to the journal.
• Conflicts of interest regarding the submitted article must be stated and the reason must be explained.
• Authors must inform the editor and the editorial board when they detect an error in their work and cooperate for the correction or retraction process.
Referee Review Processes
• All articles submitted to the journal of Ethnomusicology are evaluated with a double-blind process. Double-blind means that authors are kept secret from referees and referees are kept secret from authors in order to ensure an unbiased, objective and independent evaluation process.
• Articles are sent to referees for evaluation through the DergiPark communication method as well as the e-mail addresses of the Ethnomusicology Association. This process is carried out via www.etnomuzikoloji.org and etnomuzikolojidernegi@gmail.com.
Ethical responsibilities and roles of Ethnomusicology Journal referees:
• Referees are required to referee articles only related to their fields of expertise.
• Referees are expected to accept to referee articles for which they have no conflicts of interest. If referees notice any conflicts of interest, they must inform the editor and decline to referee the relevant article.
• Referees must evaluate articles impartially and objectively.
• Referees are required to fill out the form in the Article Tracking System on the journal website regarding the articles they evaluate and are expected not to state their names on the forms in order not to harm the double-blind process. The reviewers are required to state their decisions on whether the article they have reviewed is publishable and the reasons for their decisions in this form.

• Reviewers are required to complete their reviews within the time period given to them and are expected to comply with the ethical responsibilities stated here.

Editor's Processes

• The editor is required to comply with the ethical responsibilities listed below in the "COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" and "COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

• The editor is responsible for all articles published in the journal.

Editor's ethical duties and responsibilities:
Communication with Reviewers
• The editor should request that reviewers evaluate articles that are appropriate to their knowledge and expertise.

• The article should be properly evaluated by experts in the field.

• The editor should ensure that reviewers do not evaluate an article The editor is obliged to ask the referees to state that they have no conflicts of interest regarding the article beforehand.

• The editor must provide the referees with all necessary information regarding the peer review process and what is expected of the referees.

• The editor must ensure that the peer review process is double-blinded and must not disclose the referees to the authors or the authors to the referees.

• The editor must evaluate the referees according to their timing and performance.

• The editor must create a database of referees and update the database according to the performance of the referees.

• The editor must remove referees who make rude and unqualified comments or return late from the referee list.

• The editor must constantly update and expand the referee list according to the referees' areas of expertise.

Communication with Authors

• The editor must constantly update the Author and Publication Principles regarding what is expected of them.

• The editor should evaluate the referees according to their timing and performance.

• The editor should create a database of referees and update the database according to the performance of the referees.

• The editor should remove referees who make rude and unqualified comments or return late from the referee list.

• The editor should constantly update and expand the referee list according to the referees' areas of expertise.

Communication with Authors

• The editor should constantly update the Writing and Publication Principles regarding what is expected of the authors.

• The editor should evaluate the articles submitted to the journal in terms of the journal's writing rules, the importance of the study, and its originality, and if the editor decides to reject the article during the initial submission process, he/she should clearly and impartially inform the authors of the reason. If it is decided during this process that the article needs to be reviewed in terms of grammar, punctuation, and/or spelling rules (margins, proper referencing, etc.), the authors should be informed of this and given time to make the necessary corrections.

Publisher
The Journal of Ethnomusicology is published by the Ethnomusicology Association.
Publisher's ethical responsibilities:
• The publisher accepts that the editor is the decision maker and the peer review process in the Ethnomusicology journal.

• The publisher ensures open, electronic and free access to the journal (www.etnomuzikoloji.org- etnomuzikolojidernegi@gmail.com)
Plagiarism and Unethical Behaviors
• All articles submitted to the Ethnomusicology Journal are scanned with the iThenticate (or Turnitin) software program before publication.

• The highest accepted similarity rate is 20%.

• Articles exceeding this rate are examined in detail and, if deemed necessary, are sent back to the authors for revision or correction. If plagiarism or unethical behavior is detected, publication may be rejected.
Some unethical behaviors are listed below:
• Stating people who did not contribute to the study as authors.

• Not stating people who contributed to the study as authors.
• Not stating if the article was produced from the author's master's/doctoral thesis or a project.

• Slicing, that is, publishing more than one article from a single study.

• Not declaring conflicts of interest regarding submitted articles.

• Deciphering the double-blind process.
