Adam Smith’s Concept Of Police

Abstract

“Police” is one of the concepts that draws much attention in the contemporary political philosophy. The growing interest in the concept of police goes hand in hand with the development of novel insights into the historical, theoretical and conceptual dimensions of power and politics. This also paves the way for a new ground of reading and thinking of classical political economy. It is because Adam Smith, one of the founder thinkers of classical political economy, used the concept of police that the attention in this context is turned to him. The paper critically evaluates Smith’s concept of police against those claims according to which the so-called disparities of usage of the concept in Smith’s texts indicate profound theoretical discrepancies in his thought

ADAM SMITH’İN POLICE KAVRAMI

Abstract

Çağdaş siyaset felsefesinde en çok ilgi çeken kavramlardan biri “polis”tir police . Polis kavramına artan bu ilgi iktidarın ve siyasetin tarihsel, kuramsal ve kavramsal boyutlarına getirilen yeni anlayışlar ile el ele gitmektedir. Polis kavramına olan bu ilgi aynı zamanda klasik politik ekonomiyi okumanın ve düşünmenin yeni bir zeminini yaratmaktadır. Klasik politik iktisadın kurucu düşünürlerinden Adam Smith’in polis kavramını kullanıyor olması dikkati bu bağlamda düşünüre yöneltmiştir. Yazı Smith’in eserlerinde polis kavramının kullanımındaki farklılıkların düşüncesinde daha derin kuramsal farklılıklara işaret ettiği yönündeki iddiaların karşısında Smith’in polis kavramını eleştirel açıdan değerlendirmektedir
