Eğitimin bireysel ve toplumsal yaşamdaki önemi herkesin tartışmasız kabul ettiği bir gerçektir. Tartışılan şey eğitimin hangi amaçlara hizmet edeceğidir. Fakat bundan önce yanıtlanması gereken soru insan- eğitiminin ne olduğudur. Bu sorunun yanıtına göre, eğitimin sırf mesleki, dinsel veya ideolojik amaçlar taşması gerekip gerekmediği konusunda bir karara varabiliriz.
Eğitimin neliği ve amacına yönelik bu tartışmada, Platon'un bir insanlaşma süreci olarak gördüğü eğitime ilişkin görüşlerinin bizler için bir hareket noktası olabileceği inancındayım.
The importance of human-education, in the individual life as well as social life, is a fact far from doubt What has been discussed is which purposes education has to serve. However, before that, we must have an answer for "what is human-education?". According to the given answer, we can come to a decision whether education has to possess only teological, ideological or occupational purposes.
I think, in this discussion on what education and its purpose is, Plato's view of education which takes education as a process of being-human, might be a starting-point for us.
