Year 2025, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, 29 - 44, 19.10.2025

Abstract

Cartoons, which play an important role in children's development and education, can also influence their eating habits. Indeed, it is possible for children to want to consume the same food that a cartoon character eats, or to refuse the food that the character rejects. Therefore, it is important to examine the role of food elements in the narratives of cartoons, which have such a significant impact on children's worldviews. This study clearly highlights the interdisciplinary nature of gastronomy. From this perspective, this qualitative study aims to explore the roles of iconic food elements in the narratives of cartoons. The research takes a holistic approach to the representation of food and its function within the narrative in eight iconic animated productions from different periods and regions. The study found that food is not merely a humorous or visual element, but plays a decisive role in shaping the characters' personalities. It was determined that some foods represent positive and constructive themes such as victory, power, pastoral life, modernism, and friendship, while others carry negative and critical symbolic meanings, such as hedonism, consumer culture, and greed.

Gastronomi ve Çizgi Film Karakterleri: Yiyeceklerin Hikâyelerdeki Rolü

Year 2025, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, 29 - 44, 19.10.2025
https://doi.org/10.32958/gastoria.1678023
