Types of Manuscripts Accepted
The primary objective of the journal is to publish original research articles on real estate and related. In addition, the journal welcomes field-specific review articles, case studies or case analyses, model proposals, and studies evaluating academic activities related to the field:
Research Articles
Research articles are academic studies that address an original scientific problem, collect and analyze data through a systematic methodology, and present conclusions based on empirical findings. These articles typically include hypotheses or research questions grounded in a theoretical framework and involve empirical research conducted using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods.
The aim of research articles is to contribute to the existing literature, expand the current body of knowledge, and open new areas for scholarly discussion. The methods and data used in the article should be clearly presented, replicable, and in compliance with the principles of scientific ethics. The conclusions should be discussed based on the analytical findings.
Review Articles
The review articles to be published in the journal are evaluated within the scope of the following four categories:
1. Literature Reviews: These are studies that present the theoretical and empirical literature on a specific topic from a broad perspective, introducing various dimensions of the subject to the journal’s target audience, which primarily includes academics, practitioners, and students. The aim of these articles is to avoid merely listing prior research and instead produce well-structured academic contributions that can lay the groundwork for new research questions and future studies.
2. Meta-Analytic Evaluations: These studies are limited to empirical research and aim to quantitatively interpret and review previously published works in a specific field, focusing on topics that would benefit the journal's readership. Meta-analytic evaluations provide statistical insights by synthesizing data from multiple studies.
3. Model Proposals: Based on the accumulation of theoretical knowledge and the cause-effect relationships established in the literature, these studies propose new models by evaluating previously published empirical research using statistical or meta-analytic methods rather than purely descriptive approaches. Such analyses aim to synthesize the existing body of knowledge from a wide scientific perspective.
4. Case Presentations: These are studies that systematically examine and evaluate concrete cases encountered in applied fields. Rather than merely describing the cases, these articles aim to analyze them within a theoretical framework and provide practical insights for implementation.
5. Evaluations of Projects, Books, Congresses, Symposia, and Conferences: The journal may also publish evaluations of project reports, books or book chapters, and academic events such as congresses, conferences, and symposia, especially in areas including construction, real estate, technology, finance, accounting, zoning, tendering, contracts, tax and environmental law, risk management, and insurance. These contributions are intended to inform the target audience and highlight notable academic activities and publications, preferably on the final pages of each issue.
GENERAL RULES
1. Research and review articles submitted to the Ankara University Journal of Real Estate Studies (AU-JRES) must not have been previously published elsewhere, must not be under review by another journal, and must not be submitted simultaneously to any other publication. Authors are required to declare, during submission, that the manuscript has not been sent to any other journal for publication.
2. The copyright of all articles submitted to the Ankara University Journal of Real Estate Studies belongs to the journal. The Copyright Transfer Form (see Forms) must be completed and signed by all authors, and uploaded to the system as a PDF or JPG file along with the manuscript. Manuscripts submitted without the Copyright Transfer Form will not be considered for review.
3. Authors must upload the Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, and Funding Acknowledgment Statement (see Forms), which includes information about author contributions, any conflicts of interest, acknowledgments of support, and whether the study is based on a thesis or conference presentation.
4. For studies that require ethics committee approval, the Ethics Committee Approval Document must be uploaded along with the manuscript file. Ethics approval must be obtained for all research conducted using qualitative or quantitative methods that involve collecting data from participants through techniques such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, or experiments. In addition, information regarding the ethics committee approval (committee name, date, and approval number) must be clearly stated on the Title Page (e.g., Ethics Committee Approval: Ethics approval for this study was granted by the Ankara University Ethics Committee on [date] with decision number [xxxx]). Studies without proper ethical approval will not be considered for review. For articles derived from projects supported by universities, public or private institutions, or international organizations, the project name, funding source, principal investigator, and permission documents from the sponsor must also be submitted.
5. The manuscript file uploaded to the DergiPark system must be anonymized. The manuscript must not contain any identifying information about the author(s), such as names, ORCID IDs, contact details, institutional affiliations, or references to the study’s origin (e.g., project, thesis, or conference paper). A fully anonymized version of the full text must be uploaded, and no author information should appear at any stage of the review process. The complete title of the manuscript and all author details must be included only in the “Title Page”, which should be uploaded as a separate file.
6. "Author Declaration and Publication Consent Form" is to be signed by the corresponding author, after the manuscript has been accepted and the typesetting stage has been completed, upon verification of the required checks, and subsequently uploaded to the system.
7. The full responsibility for the content of the manuscripts submitted to the Ankara University Journal of Real Estate Studies in accordance with the submission guidelines lies solely with the author(s).
8. Manuscript Formatting Guidelines
• Manuscripts must be prepared using the journal's article template (see Forms) in MS Office Word 2016 or a later version, on A4-sized pages.
• Along with the manuscript, authors must also upload a separate Title Page (or Cover Page) that includes author information. This Title Page should contain the manuscript title, the affiliations and academic titles of the author(s), mailing addresses, mobile, Office numbers, ORCID IDs, and email addresses (see Forms).
8.1. Length of the Manuscript: The title of the manuscript should reflect the main topic of the study and must not exceed 20 words. The length of the manuscript (excluding the extended abstract, figures, and tables) should be between 8,000 and 12,000 words, and should not exceed 35 pages in the journal's formatting style. The text must be written in Palatino Linotype, 10-point font size, with 1.5 cm margins on all sides (top, bottom, left, and right), justified alignment, single line spacing, and 6 pt spacing before and after paragraphs.
8.2. Extended Summary: All manuscripts submitted in Turkish must include an English Extended Summary, which will be published alongside the article. These summaries must follow the section headings provided in the official article template. Turkish submissions without an Extended Summary will be rejected without review (see: Article Format_Anonymous). The extended summary must not exceed one page.
8.3. Language Statement: For manuscripts written entirely in English by author(s) whose native language is not English, a proofreading certificate issued by a native English speaker or a professional language editing service must be submitted to ensure linguistic clarity and academic quality. Alternatively, a clear, justified, and convincing author statement explaining who performed the proofreading and how it was conducted may be uploaded to the system. This certificate or statement must be uploaded within one month following the completion of the peer-review process and the manuscript’s acceptance for publication.
8.4. First Page of the Manuscript: The first page must include the title of the article in both Turkish and English. No information about the author(s) should be included on this page under any circumstances. If the manuscript is written in Turkish, the Turkish title should be written in 14-point font, and the English title, placed directly below it, should be in 12-point italic font. The abstracts in Turkish and English must begin with the labels “Öz” and “Abstract”, respectively. Abstracts should be written in Palatino Linotype, 9-point, and italic font. Each abstract must be between 150 and 200 words in length. Keywords must be provided, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5. Abstracts must not contain non-standard abbreviations, equations, citations, or similar elements.
8.5. Section Headings: The manuscript may include the following sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Research Findings and Discussion, Conclusion, References, and Appendices, as applicable. All main sections and their sub-sections should be numbered hierarchically (e.g., 1., 1.1., 1.2., 1.1.2). Main and subheadings must be left-aligned without indentation. Each word in all headings should begin with a capital letter. Main headings should be in bold and in regular typeface. Subheadings should be in italics. A blank line must be inserted before each main heading, but no space should follow it. For subheadings, no spacing should be added before or after the heading.
8.6. Table titles should be placed above the table. Each table and figure must be numbered sequentially (e.g., Table 1, Table 2, etc.). If a source citation is required for a table or figure, it must be written directly below the respective element, using a font size between 8 and 10 points. Text within tables or figures should also be formatted in 8 to 10-point font size. All tables and figures must be cited appropriately in the main text at the relevant location.
8.7. Equations: Mathematical equations included in the manuscript (if any) must be written on separate lines and numbered sequentially. Equation numbers should be placed in parentheses, right-aligned on the same line as the equation.
Equations should be formatted using a 1x2 table, with the equation in the left cell and the equation number in the right cell. The borders of the table must be hidden. The equation cell should take up 90% of the table width and the equation number cell 10%. The equation should be centered within its cell, and the equation number should be right-aligned. Left and right cell padding must be set to zero. Single line spacing should be added before and after the equation. Equations should be written using the equation editor in MS Word® 2007 or later, or using MathType. Equations must be cited in the main text as, for example, “Equation (1)”.
8.8. References: All in-text citations and references must be formatted according to the APA 7th Edition guidelines. In the text, citations should include the surname of the author(s) and the year of the source. If no author is listed, the name of the institution should be used in place of the author. In-text citation formats are as follows:
• For a single-author source: ………..(Şimşek, 2019).
• For a two-author source: ………..(Gündoğan & Önder, 2010).
• For a source with three or more authors: ………..(Böke et al., 2010).
• For sources without a personal author but published by an institution: ………..(UNDP, 2025).
• For sources with no identifiable author or institution, use the title: ………..(Transformation of urban transportation policies in Türkiye, 1987).
References Section
• The References section must list all cited sources in alphabetical order.
• The text should be written in Palatino Linotype, 10-point, justified alignment, and single line spacing.
• Each reference entry must have 6 pt spacing before and after, and a 1.25 cm indentation on the first line is not required (unless otherwise stated in the journal’s template).
• Do not categorize references by type (e.g., books, articles, websites, interviews, etc.).
• Titles of books, journals, newspapers, and theses must be written in italics.
• In publisher names, do not include suffixes such as LTD. ŞTİ. or A.Ş.
• For sources with multiple authors, all authors' full names (surname and initials) must be listed, regardless of the number of authors.
• Reference formatting examples are provided in the journal’s article template (see: Article Format_Anonymous).
8.9. Quotation Formatting: According to APA 7th Edition, direct quotations of 1–39 words are considered short quotations. These must be integrated into the text using double quotation marks (“...”) and written in regular (non-italic) font. In-text citations for all direct quotations must include page numbers. To indicate a single page, use the abbreviation "p." (e.g., p. 32). For multiple pages, use "pp." (e.g., pp. 1289–1291). When using a long quotation (more than 39 words), it must be formatted as a separate block paragraph, written in regular font, with the entire block indented 1.25 cm from the left margin. Quotation marks should not be used for block quotations. Even for block quotations, the page number must be included in the in-text citation at the end of the quotation.
8.10. Appendices: If appendices are to be included in the manuscript, they must be placed after the References section and formatted in 9-point font size.
