Drug abuse and addiction problems have especially been widespread among high school students and have located on Turkey's agenda in recent years. The schools can be selected as one of the most convenient locations in order to determine the students’ knowledge about substance addiction. In addition, biology education is an important part of education for recognizing our bodies and healthy living, and also addictive substances that disrupt the health. Therefore, biology education given in high schools is important to increase the knowledge level about loss of these substances which are used widespread among young people, the ways of prevention from them and measures to be taken. With this perspective, the main aim of this study is to determine the knowledge levels of the 9-12th grade students attending biology courses about substance addiction. Descriptive method, which is among non-experimental designs of quantitative approach, was used to guide the process. The study was conducted in 2015-2016 semester. The sample consisted of totally 120 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who were randomly selected. The data were collected through “Substance Addiction Knowledge Test (SAKT)”. According to the findings obtained, it was founded that the student had low knowledge level and some recommendations were suggested.
