Experiences of Primary School Administrators in Relations with External School Stakeholders: A Phenomenal Study

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the experiences of primary school administrators regarding the functioning of social, cultural, and sports activities in their relationships with out-of-school environmental stakeholders. The study is qualitative in nature and employs a phenomenological research design. The study group consists of school administrators working in primary schools affiliated with the … District of … Province during the 2023–2024 academic year. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that parents contribute in areas such as the provision of tools and materials; however, negative situations were also observed, such as perceiving activities as unnecessary. While the moral support of senior administrators was emphasized, serious problems such as discrimination also came to the fore. The contributions of local governments, such as transportation support, were highlighted; however, issues such as geographical discrimination driven by politics were also noted. Although political parties were found to provide material support to schools, political interference in education was emphasized as a negative experience. In relations with labor unions, material support was highlighted, whereas educational support was emphasized in relations with non-governmental organizations. It was determined that social media contributes positively to the functioning of various activities by increasing visibility, but it also creates negative effects, such as pressure to engage in constant sharing. Various recommendations were presented, including encouraging parents’ active participation in social activities and developing support policies to prevent geographical and political discrimination.
