Tükenmişlik Sendromu Yaşayan Stajyerlere Yönelik Bir Örnek Olay İncelemesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı kariyerinin henüz başında staj yapan bir bireyin yaşadığı tükenmişlik sendromunu ailesini de araştırmaya katarak derinlemesine incelemek ve çözüm sunmaktır. Vakaya konu olan kişi 23 yaşında Türkiye’de bir devlet üniversitesinde okuyan işletme 4. sınıf öğrencisidir.
Yöntem: Araştırma nitel araştırma desenlerinden örnek olay deseninden bütüncül tek durum deseni kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Burada amaç bir veya birkaç vakanın derinlemesine incelenmesidir. Burada da tükenmişlik durumunu detaylı bir şekilde incelemek için tek bir vakadan hareket edilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemi tükenmişlik yaşayan 23 yaşındaki birey, annesi ve dayısından oluşmaktadır.. Araştırmaya konu olan kişi ve ailesi ile birçok kez mülakatlar yapılmış, sesli kayıt alınarak bu sesli kayıt daha sonra bir transkript haline getirilmiş ve oluşturulan doküman içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur.
Bulgular: Yapılan içerik analizleri sonucunda bireyin çalıştığı iş yerinde sosyal destek bulamaması sonucu duygusal tükenme yaşadığı, bu duygusal tükenmenin de duyarsızlaşmayı getirdiği ve kişisel başarı beklentisinin de önemli ölçüde düştüğü anlaşılmıştır. Sosyal desteğin tükenmişliği engelleme noktasında önemli olduğu örnek vaka özelinde anlaşılmıştır. Ayrıca örnek olay özelinde Maslach’ın modelinde yer alan ilkesel sıralamanın geçerli olduğu anlaşılmıştır.
Özgün Değer: Alan yazında tükenmişlik ile ilgili yapılan çalışmaların çok büyük bir kısmının nicel araştırma deseni olduğu görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada örnek bir vaka üzerinden giderek tükenmişlik evreleri derinlemesine incelenmiş, geleceğimiz olan gençlerin kariyerlerinin henüz başında yaşayabilecekleri olumsuz deneyimler ve sonucunda deneyimleyecekleri tükenmişlik sendromunun kariyerine ne denli büyük zarar verebileceği anlaşılmıştır. Ayrıca bu çalışmada aile de araştırmaya katılarak çalışmanın özgünlüğüne olumlu bir katkı yapılmıştır.

A Case Study of Interns Experiencing Burnout Syndrome

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the burnout experienced by an individual who is doing internship at the very beginning of his career by including his family in the research. The subject of the case is a 23-year-old, 4th year Business Administration student at a state university in Turkey.
Method: The research was conducted using a holistic single case design from the case study design, one of the qualitative research designs. The aim here is to examine one or more cases in depth. Here, too, a single case was used to examine the burnout situation in detail. The sample of the study consists of a 23-year-old individual experiencing burnout, his mother and his uncle. Interviews were made with the person and his family, which were the subject of the research, many times, and this audio recording was then turned into a transcript and the created document was subjected to content analysis.
Findings: According to the result of the content analysis, it was clear that the individual experienced emotional exhaustion as a result of not being able to find social support at the workplace, this emotional exhaustion brought about depersonalization and the expectation of personal success decreased significantly. In terms of the study, it is understood that social support is important in preventing burnout. In addition, the principled order in Maslach's model is valid for the case study while comparing with Golembiewski’s model.
Originality: In the related literature, it is seen that most of the studies about burnout have been conducted quantitative research designs. In this study, the stages of burnout were examined in depth through a case study, and it was understood that the negative experiences that the young people, who are our future, may experience at the beginning of their careers and how the burnout syndrome that they will experience as a result can harm their career. In addition, in this study, the family also participated in the research,as making a positive contribution to the originality of the study.
