Erteleme Davranışı ve İş Tatmini: Kişi-İş Uyumsuzluğunun Düzenleyici Etkisi

Year 2025, Volume: 27 Issue: Özel Sayı, 113 - 128, 28.10.2025

Abstract

Procrastination Behavior and Job Satisfaction: The Moderating Effect of Person-Job Misfit

Year 2025, Volume: 27 Issue: Özel Sayı, 113 - 128, 28.10.2025

Abstract

Procrastination behavior in work life is a self-regulation failure that occurs when employees avoid doing their work despite the potential for negative consequences. Although it has been retained that previous studies have examined procrastination behavior mostly in an academic context, it can be denoted that it is an important concept to be investigated in an organizational context since it is a frequently encountered behavior in work life. In this context, the current study aims to understand how procrastination behavior affects job satisfaction, which is an important work attitude, and to reveal the moderator role of person-job misfit in this effect. Accordingly, hypotheses were proposed by utilizing the assumptions of self-regulation theory. The research, in which quantitative research methods were adopted, was conducted with the data collected from 232 participants by the questionnaire method. The findings showed that there was a significant and adverse relationship between procrastination behavior and job satisfaction. In addition, it was found that person-job misfit played a moderator role in the relationship between procrastination behavior and job satisfaction. The negative relationship between procrastination behavior and job satisfaction was found to be stronger when person-job misfit was low, while this negative relationship was found to be weaker when person-job misfit was high.
