The Effect of Mind Mapping and Storification Techniques on Seventh Grade Students' Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary Knowledge in English
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of storification and mind mapping techniques on students' vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension skills in English. A quasi-experimental research design was employed. The sample consisted of 60 seventh-grade students from three classes in secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MONE). The study included three groups: Experiment 1, Experiment 2, and a control group. During the experimental process, the Experiment 1 group was taught using the storification technique, while the Experiment 2 group was taught using the mind mapping technique. The control group did not receive any intervention during the teaching process. In line with the seventh-grade English curriculum, two topics were presented to the experimental groups using lesson plans and materials specifically prepared for these units. The experimental process involved the use of pre-tests, post-tests, and follow-up tests for data analysis. Achievement tests measuring English vocabulary and reading comprehension skills were utilized as data collection tools. The research findings revealed a significant improvement in reading comprehension skills across all groups compared to the pre-experimental phase, indicating that the techniques used in the experimental groups facilitated permanent learning.
