İsmet Özel ve Ataol Behramoğlu'nun Gençlik Dönemi Mektuplaşmalarında Yüz Çalışması

Abstract

Nezaket kuram ve yaklaşımları temelli çalışmalar, alan yazınında son yıllarda artış göstermektedir. Kuramsal çalışmaların yanı sıra söz öbekleri ve gramatikal unsurlar da nezaket kuramı açısından ele alınmış; kuram ve yaklaşımlar edebî metinlere uygulanmıştır ancak kişiler arası sosyal iletişime dayalı çalışmaların sayısı sınırlıdır. Genç Bir Şairden Genç Bir Şaire Mektuplar adıyla yayımlananan mektuplar; kırgınlığın ardından iletişimi tekrar başlatmak, ortak zemini hatırlatmak, kendini açıklamak vb. amaçlarla yazılması nedeniyle kişiler arası iletişimde yüz yönetimini incelemek için elverişlidir. Bu makalede, 1965’te başlayan ve o dönemde Türk edebiyatının iki genç şairi olarak nitelendirilebilecek İsmet Özel ve Ataol Behramoğlu arasında gerçekleşen mektuplaşmadaki ilk mektuplar incelenmiştir. Sadece ilk mektupların ele alınmasının sebebi, incelemek istediğimiz durumların ilk mektuplarda yoğun biçimde bulunmasıdır. Makalede, Brown&Levinson’un yüz temelli yaklaşımı esas alınmıştır. Esas alınan yaklaşım çerçevesinde, yüz tehdit eden eylemler ve bu eylemlere yönelik stratejiler belirtilerek mektuplarından alınan metin örnekleri üzerinde şairlerin yürüttükleri yüz yönetimi incelenmiş, kuramsal çerçeve dâhilinde belirlenen kodlarla yorumlanmıştır. Makale, iletişimi sürdürmek isteyen kişilerin, nezaket stratejilerini bilerek veya bilmeden işe koştuğunu göstermeyi hedeflemektedir. İnceleme sonucunda Özel’in tutarlı ve iletişimi yeniden yapılandırmaya yönelik bir yüz yönetimi sergilerken kendi pozitif ve negatif yüzüne yönelik korumacı davrandığı; Behramoğlu’nun iletişimi yeniden yapılandırırken yüz yönetimi açısından birbirini aksi yönlere doğru etkileyen stratejilere başvurduğu görülmüştür.

Face Work in the Youth Correspondence of İsmet Özel and Ataol Behramoğlu

Abstract

Studies on politeness theory have increased in recent years. In addition to theoretical work, phrases and grammatical elements have been analyzed within the framework of politeness theory, and various approaches have been applied to literary texts. However, the number of studies based on actual interpersonal communication remains limited. The letters included in Genç Bir Şairden Genç Bir Şaire Mektuplar constitute a suitable dataset for investigating face management in personal communication, as they contain relationship-building and relationship-repair processes alongside speech acts such as advice-seeking, self-explanation, and the expression of resentment. This article analyzes the initial letters exchanged between İsmet Özel and Ataol Behramoğlu—two young poets of Turkish literature at the time—in a correspondence that began in 1965 and was later published as Genç Bir Şairden Genç Bir Şaire Mektuplar. The findings indicate that Özel demonstrated a consistent pattern of face management aimed at restructuring communication, while also maintaining a protective stance toward both his positive and negative face. In contrast, Behramoğlu, although similarly engaged in re-establishing communication, displayed emotional instability and employed strategies that operated in conflicting directions in terms of facework.
