Civilization can be described as the development of human societies and the set of unique values created by a community. The level of development of a society is directly proportional to the ability of its individuals to suppress their primitive impulses. In this context, art is one of the elements that play an active role in the development of civilization. Goddess Venus has been a representation of the ideal female body and divine beauty, rather than being a mythological figure. With the representations constructed under the male gaze, the female body has become an object of gaze. Western civilization has increased its dominance over other geographies and cultures by the success of colonial activities. The result of it has manifested itself in the relationship of Western civilization with the other. Curiosity and desire for the other initially gained representation in the field of art as works of orientalist painters; then, with the attempts of scientists to research races with different physical characteristics, the phase of the relationship with the other changed. This resulted in black people being labeled as savages and presented as objects of gaze. Saartjie Bartmann was watched as the Hottentot Venus in Europe; after her death, she was dissected for examination and exhibited for nearly two hundred years. In this study, the issue of production and consumption of the female body as a gaze object is examined through the change and transformation of the meaning of the Venus image in the context of the civilization process.
