Ester Maria Valentina Annunziata is an architect, professor and curator with an interdisciplinary profile
that integrates architecture, visual arts, landscape and urban design, with particular attention to the role of
art as a tool for urban regeneration, territorial enhancement and the transformation of public space. She
teaches Elements of Architecture and Urban Planning and Urban Design (First level – ABPR14) at the
Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce, where she carries out teaching and research activities focused on the
relationship between design culture, place identity and contemporary practices in public space.
Her academic activity is characterised by an experimental and integrated approach that connects artistic
knowledge and design disciplines, promoting methodologies based on critical site analysis, participatory
processes, place-based storytelling, site-specific design and strategies for urban reactivation. Her
teaching commitment is accompanied by an active role in cooperation and internationalisation, also
through the coordination and management of initiatives related to mobility programmes and institutional
partnerships.
Alongside her teaching activity, she has developed a solid professional practice as an architect and
designer, with assignments related to the design and redevelopment of urban and cultural spaces,
landscape enhancement and the definition of adaptive reuse interventions in public contexts. Her
professional experience includes urban regeneration projects and cultural accessibility initiatives, with a
strong focus on architectural quality, sustainability and the social impact of interventions.
A distinctive aspect of her professional path is her experience in the curatorship and design of exhibitions
and cultural events, where design expertise and curatorial vision intersect with organisation, coordination,
site supervision and exhibition installations. In this context, she has collaborated with major national
institutions, including the MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts, and has taken part in exhibition
and installation activities in high-profile cultural environments, including two editions of the Venice
Biennale. In these experiences, her work focused on creating spatial dispositifs capable of translating
complex cultural contents into accessible public experiences, enhancing exhibition design as a critical
and narrative tool.
Of particular relevance is also her activity of technical and scientific support to Public Administrations and
institutions, carried out through national projects dedicated to architectural quality and the management
of public procedures. Within this framework, she contributed to the project “Qualità Italia – Projects for the
Quality of Architecture”, with responsibilities including coordination, technical-administrative assistance,
document preparation and process management related to architectural design competitions and public
procurement procedures, with special attention to transparency, quality of calls and territorial
enhancement.
Further specialised experience includes technical support for international design competitions and urban
transformation procedures in collaboration with CDP Investimenti SGR (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti), within
complex operations of regeneration and functional reconversion of large-scale areas and public assets.
These activities strengthened competences in project governance, regulatory frameworks and integrated
process management, in relation to strategic urban development programmes.
Her professional profile therefore coherently combines education, design practice and cultural
production, outlining a figure capable of operating across institutions, cities and communities, with a
vision in which art and architecture act as tools for understanding and transforming contemporary society,
aimed at improving urban quality, regenerating public space and enhancing territories
