Kaynak Metinlerle Bağlar ve Sadakat Olgusu Çerçevesinde Hayran Filmlerini Okumak

Abstract

Edebiyat ve sinema ilişkisinin tarihsel bir sonucu olan uyarlama eserler hayran kültürü içerisinde farklı okuma biçimleriyle anlam kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı izleyicilerin hayran kurgusu uyarlama filmle kaynak metinler arasında nasıl bağlar kurduklarını tematik bir yapı içerisinde ortaya koymak ve sadakat olgusunun bu anlam kümesi içerisinde nasıl işlev gördüğünü tarif etmektir. Bu araştırmanın önemi hayran kültürü çalışmalarında üzerinde fazla durulmamış bir konu olan kaynak metne sadakat odaklı izleyici okumalarına dair anlam kategorilerinin keşfedilerek bu temalar üzerinden kuramsal bir yaklaşım geliştirilmesidir. Keşfedici bir yaklaşımla yapılandırılan araştırma metodolojik olarak gömülü kuram yaklaşımını benimsemiştir. J.K. Rowling’in fantastik roman türündeki eseri Harry Potter serisinden uyarlanan hayran kurgusu film “Severus Snape and the Marauders” filmine yapılan yorumlar MAXQDA programı aracılığıyla, gömülü kuram yaklaşımının kodlama basamaklarına göre analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada hayran kurgusu ve kaynak metin arasında bağlantı kurduğu belirlenen 1.799 kullanıcı yorumu analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, izleyicilerin hayran kurgusu uyarlama film ve kaynak metinleri altı farklı anlam ekseninde ilişkilendirdiğini göstermektedir. Bunlar eleştirel okuma, kaynak metne sadakatin olumlanması, kanaatleri etkileme, anlatı otoritesi çerçevesi, karşılaştırmalar ve özgün değer kategorileri olarak gruplandırılmıştır. İkincil bulgular ise izleyicilerin hayran kurgusu film ve kaynak metinleri ilişkilendirme biçimlerinin ağırlıklı olarak, sınırları kaynak metin tarafından belirlenen kanon anlatıya sadakat değeri ekseninde geliştiğini göstermektedir. Bu yönüyle hayran kurgusu yapımın olumlu, olumsuz veya müzakereci bir okuma biçiminden hangisine tabi olursa olsun temel incelenme kıstasının kaynak metne sadakat değeri olduğu görülmüştür.

Reading Fan Films in the Context of Source Texts and the Concept of Fidelity

Abstract

Adapted works, which are a historical result of the relationship between literature and cinema, gain meaning through different reading styles within fan culture. The aim of this study is to reveal how viewers establish connections between the fan fiction adaptation and the source texts within a thematic structure and to describe how the concept of fidelity functions within this set of meanings. The importance of this research is to explore the meaning categories of audience readings focused on fidelity to the source text, a subject that has not been emphasized much in fan culture studies, and to develop a theoretical approach based on these themes. Structured with an exploratory approach, the research methodologically adopts a grounded theory approach. Comments on the fan fiction film "Severus Snape and the Marauders", adapted from J.K. Rowling's fantasy novel Harry Potter series, were analyzed using the MAXQDA program, according to the coding steps of the grounded theory approach. The study analyzed 1,799 user comments that were found to establish a link between fan fiction and the source text. The findings indicate that audiences' associations between fan fiction adaptations and source texts develop along six distinct axes of meaning. These are categorized as critical reading, positive evaluation of fidelity to the source text, influencing of opinions, the framework of narrative authority, comparisons, and originality. Secondary findings indicate that the ways in which viewers relate to fan fiction films and source texts are predominantly based on the value of fidelity to the canon narrative, the boundaries of which are defined by the source text. In this respect, regardless of whether a fan fiction film is subject to a positive, negative, or deliberative reading, the fundamental criterion for analyzing it is its fidelity to the source text.
