Journal of Smart Systems (JOSS) is an international, peer-reviewed, scholarly, and open-access e-journal published by Bartın University, aiming to publish original and high-quality studies that make scholarly contributions in the fields of intelligent systems and engineering applications.
JOSS was established in 2022 with the support of DergiPark. The journal was published once a year in 2022 and 2023; since 2024, it has been published electronically twice a year, in June and December. No fees are charged to authors for manuscript submission or publication. Manuscript submissions are accepted throughout the year. The issue in which an article will be published is determined according to the date on which the peer-review and editorial evaluation processes are completed.
Journal of Smart Systems aims to contribute to relevant scientific fields, particularly Bartın University’s specialization area of “Smart Logistics and Integrated Regional Applications,” by publishing research articles and review articles prepared in accordance with academic standards. The journal applies a double-blind peer-review system. Under this system, the identities of authors are not disclosed to reviewers, and the identities of reviewers are not disclosed to authors. Manuscripts submitted to the journal are first subjected to a preliminary editorial review in terms of their conformity with the journal’s aims and scope, author guidelines, scholarly quality, ethical declarations, and similarity rate. Manuscripts that pass the preliminary review are sent to at least two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to request revisions to submitted manuscripts and to decide whether or not manuscripts will be published.
The publication processes of Journal of Smart Systems are conducted in accordance with the principles of research and publication ethics, editorial independence, impartiality in peer review, transparency, academic integrity, open access, and the free circulation of scholarly knowledge. The journal takes into consideration national and international academic publishing standards, principles of scholarly publication ethics, and the evaluation criteria of relevant indexes.
The scholarly, ethical, legal, and linguistic responsibility for articles published in the journal rests with the authors.
Journal of Smart Systems adopts an open-access publishing model. All articles published in the journal are freely accessible to readers immediately upon publication, without any access fee, subscription, registration requirement, or embargo period.
The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been previously published elsewhere or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Full-text conference papers presented at scholarly meetings and studies derived from postgraduate theses may be considered for publication, provided that this information is clearly stated in the manuscript.
Manuscript submissions to the journal are made through DergiPark. Except for field-specific conventions, the Turkish Language Association (TDK) Spelling Guide shall be followed in the preparation of manuscripts and the use of punctuation. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be prepared in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines.
