The State of Social Studies Teacher Preparation: An Analysis of Program Requirements in the United States

Abstract

What is the current state of social studies TPPs for licensure across the United States? The purpose of this research study is to fill the gap in the academic research, providing an overview of social studies Teacher Preparation Programs (TPPs) across the United States. In order to best answer that question the researchers examined the required pedagogical preparation courses, social science content courses, classroom management courses, and length of student teaching experiences of all public/state university teacher preparation programs in the United States.
