Call for Papers
KARE Journal of Comparative Literature
Next Issue: Migration, Media, and Visual Representation
The KARE Journal of Comparative Literature invites submissions for its next issue, focusing on the theme of Migration, Media, and Visual Representation, to be published in July 2025. This special issue seeks to explore the intersections of migration and media through various forms of visual representation, including but not limited to film, comics, photography, and other creative and critical mediums.
Migration narratives have long been a fertile ground for examining identity, belonging, and cultural exchange. In today’s increasingly visual and digital age, media and visual representation play an essential role in shaping how migration is perceived, narrated, and experienced. This issue aims to critically analyze these depictions and the stories they tell about the movement of people across borders.
Topics of Interest
We welcome papers from diverse disciplines and theoretical approaches that engage with themes including, but not limited to:
• Visual storytelling and migration narratives in film, comics, and graphic novels
• Media representation of migration and migrants in traditional and digital platforms
• Comparative studies of migration narratives across cultures and media
• The politics of representation in the visual arts and photography
• Migrants' self-representation through media and visual art forms
• Ethical and aesthetic questions surrounding the depiction of refugees and migrants
• Migration, memory, and the visual archive
• Intersectionality in migration narratives: gender, ethnicity, and identity
