Abstract

SOCIAL MANUFACTURING: SOCIAL NETWORK-BASED RESOURCE SHARING

Year 2021, Volume: 12 Issue: 24, 1237 - 1250, 21.12.2021

Abstract

Production systems show continuous improvement in parallel with technological innovations and improvement of transportation alternatives. Manufacturing-based industries become more competitive, especially with the cross-border trade and the globalization of production organizations. Actually, it becomes more difficult for companies and even countries that cannot use their resources efficiently and respond quickly to demand. Social manufacturing stands out as an effective and innovative platform that brings together relatively small manufacturers, who have production capabilities in various fields and want to share their production resources, and large-scale main manufacturing enterprises that want to perform their production tasks using outsourcing services, in an internet-based cloud system. Social manufacturing emerges as one of the results of the paradigm shifts in production, especially with the Industry 4.0 revolution. Production conditions that are more order-oriented, influenced by plant-to-plant distances and mutual trust relationships between the traditional supplier-manufacturer are moved to a time-saving platform that offers transparency at every stage, are independent of physical environments, optimizes the common profit of all stakeholders, focuses on finding the exact service requested by the manufacturer, and saves time with social manufacturing. In this study, the concept of social manufacturing is explained, the sub-functions that make up social manufacturing are presented, and the working mechanism and usage areas of social manufacturing are introduced. The aim of the study is to help adapt social manufacturing, which is one of the innovative and digital technologies that will increase production efficiency, to the usage areas in our country. It is expected that the study will be useful in establishing supply chain organizations and investigating ways to use production resources effectively.
