Working in a healthy and safe working environment is the most fundamental right of all employees. With the developing technology, the dangers and risks in the workplace continue to increase by diversifying. Some sectors inherently contain more hazards and related risks. Due to the multitude of risks in the working environment and/or the inadequacy of the precautions to be taken in the workplace, the rate of work accidents per person in some sectors is very high. There are 88 economic activity classifications in the statistical annuals of the Social Security Institution (SGK). In this study, the trend of occupational accidents and diseases occurring in Türkiye and in various sectors between the years of 2017-2021 related to economic activities has been investigated. By using the annual occupational accident and employee number data presented by SSI, incidence rates were determined and the risk levels of the sectors in terms of occupational accidents were determined. The highest rate of occupational accidents per person were determined and their safety conditions were evaluated. “Mining of coal and lignite” is in the first place according to the injury incidence rate, and “Water transport” is in the first place according to the fatality incidence rate. In occupational disease, the first sector is “Mining of coal and lignite”. With this study, sectors that need urgent measures in terms of occupational health and safety have been identified. When the risks are determined correctly, it will be ensured that material and moral losses arising from work accidents are prevented.
