Effective Strategy on Concept Learning POE (Predict-Observe-Explain) ?Substance Transport in Plants?

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of laboratory activities designed based on  Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy on pre-service teachers'  understanding of "Substance Transport in Plants" in the Science and Technology Laboratory-I course. In this study, the sample consisted of 144 pre-service primary teachers who took the laboratory course Faculty of Education at Pamukkale University. The research was realized in fall semester of 2010-2011 academic year. Results of the analyses showed that the effect of activities based on POE strategy on pre-service primary teachers' conceptual achievements. At the end of the study it was shown that misconceptions about the concept of transporting in plants the POE strategy was effective in identifying students` misconceptions and teaching the concept. It was suggested that POE strategy could be applied in other topics in science and also in other disciplines. But their effectiveness should be investigated.

Kavram Öğretiminde Etkili Bir Strateji TGA (Tahmin Et ? Gözle ? Açıkla)

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı bitkilerde madde taşınması konusunda “Tahmin Et-Gözle-Açıkla” (TGA) stratejisine dayalı hazırlanan etkinliklerin, sınıf öğretmen adaylarının kazanmaları hedeflenen bilgi ve becerileri kazanma düzeylerini arttırmak için daha etkili bir öğrenme ortamının nasıl oluşturulabileceğini araştırmak ve bu süreçte “Tahmin Et-Gözle-Açıkla”(TGA) stratejisinin etkili olup olmadığını belirlemektir. Bu araştırmanın örneklemini, Pamukkale Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Sınıf Öğretmenliği 2010-2011 güz döneminde Fen Bilgisi Laboratuarı I dersini alan 144 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Bitkilerde madde taşınması konusunda “Tahmin Et-Gözle-Açıkla”(TGA)stratejisine dayalı etkinlikler Fen Bilgisi laboratuarı I dersi kapsamında sınıf öğretmen adaylarına uygulandı. Analiz sonuçlarında, deneyin anlaşılması, hedeflenen bilgi ve becerilerin kazandırılmasında “Tahmin Et-Gözle-Açıkla”(TGA)’nın etkili bir yöntem olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğretmen adaylarının bitkilerde madde taşınması konusunda ile ilgili bir takım kavram yanılgılarının olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
