Assessment of Argumentation Models Used in Science Education
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate argument models used in science education comprehensively. Models were investigated based on patterns of used in science education, components, content and structural patterns used in science education. An example, which was designed as appropriate to science education subject area, was used when models were investigated. Domain-general models were assessed considering research results about how they used in science education. Firstly, domain-general but also used in science education models were assessed. Then, domain-specific argumentation models used in science education was assessed. In the results of this assessment, advantages and limitations of the practices of these models in science education was determined. In the light of the advantages and limitations of assessed models, a Turkish argumentation model was proposed considering Turkish language and culture structure. By giving proposed model, it was aimed to provide Turkish theoretical model for next studies about argumentation in science education.
