The Effect of Online Peer Supervision Group on Burnout Levels of School Counselors

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of online peer supervision group designed for school counselors on the burn-out levels of the participants. A pretest-posttest control group design was used in the research. The research was carried out with school counselors working in Üsküdar, Istanbul. The experimental and the control group of the study consisted of 8 school counselors who are volunteer to participate in the study. “Psychological Counselor Burn-out Inventory” was used to gather data. Peer supervision group study was applied to the experimental group of 8 people with an online group of eight sessions, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, and no intervention for the control group. For deep understanding, qualitative data were obtained through the evaluations received from the group members, facilitators, and observers. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was conducted to examine the differences between pretest and posttest of the experimental group. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine the differences between posttest scores of the experimental and control groups. According to the quantitative findings, the posttest burn-out score of the experimental group decreased significantly compared to the control group. Content analysis of the qualitative data revealed the themes that include the process of the study, professional achievements, strengths, and aspects that need to be strengthened. Findings support that online peer supervision group is effective in reducing the burnout levels of school counselors.

Online Grupla Akran Süpervizyonu Çalışmasının Okul Psikolojik Danışmanlarının Tükenmişlik Düzeyine Etkisi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı online grupla akran süpervizyonu çalışmasının okul psikolojik danışmanlarının tükenmişlik düzeyine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmada öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırma İstanbul ili Üsküdar ilçesinde görev yapan okul psikolojik danışmanlarıyla yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın deney grubu ve kontrol grubu, çalışmaya gönüllü olarak katılmayı kabul eden 8’er okul psikolojik danışmanından oluşmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Psikolojik Danışman Tükenmişlik Envanteri (PDTE)” kullanılmıştır. 8 kişilik deney grubuna yaklaşık 90 dakika süren sekiz oturumluk online grupla akran süpervizyonu çalışması uygulanmış, kontrol grubuna ise herhangi bir müdahalede bulunulmamıştır. Çalışmanın detaylı değerlendirmesi amacıyla katılımcılardan, kolaylaştırıcılardan ve gözlemcilerden alınan değerlendirmelerle nitel veriler elde edilmiştir. Deney grubunun PDTE sontest puanlarının öntest puanlarından anlamlı düzeyde farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığını belirlemek için Wilcoxon Uyumlu Çiftler İşaretli Sıralar Testi yapılmıştır. Deney ve kontrol grubunun PDTE sontest puanlarının anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığını belirlemek için ise Mann Whitney-U testi yapılmıştır. Nicel bulgulara göre deney grubunun sontest tükenmişlik puanı kontrol grubuna kıyasla anlamlı düzeyde azalmıştır. Nitel verilere yapılan içerik analizi ile çalışmanın süreci, mesleki kazanımlar, güçlü ve güçlendirilmesi gereken yanlar temaları elde edilmiştir. Çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular online grupla akran süpervizyonu çalışmasının okul psikolojik danışmanlarının tükenmişlik düzeylerini düşürmede etkili olduğunu göstermektedir.
