Concrete Casting into Textile-Surfaced Formworks, Contemporary Formwork Technologies and New Approaches

Abstract

This study examines the use of high-strength technical textiles in concrete production, moving beyond traditional rigid formwork systems, and explores the new perspectives this method offers to the global construction industry. The historical development of fabric formwork is discussed beginning with the first patents and experimental explorations in the late 19th century, and its evolution into today’s modern engineering solutions is presented through examples. Fabric formwork applications have been examined through studies conducted by academies, institutions, and organizations in different parts of the world, as well as through the projects of various architects and engineers, revealing that the application holds significant potential for the construction industry within the framework of the opportunities it brings to concrete production.

Keywords

On-site concrete production, fabric formwork technology, concrete pouring for double-curved surfaces, precast concrete production
