The Adaptation of Digital Art Installatıons to the Space in the Case of the Tophane-İ Amire Building

Abstract

This study explores the symbiotic relationship between digital art installations and historical sites, focusing on the adaptation processes within heritage environments. Using the Tophane-i Amire building as a primary case study and the Hâne exhibition as a practical reference, the research employs descriptive analysis grounded in Lisa Moran’s holistic installation framework. The findings suggest that digital artworks transcend their status as physical objects, evolving into dynamic processes that redefine the spatial narrative. By applying Moran’s concepts of passive-active change and still-moving relationships, the study demonstrates how digital interventions reshape the perception of historical space. Ultimately, the research confirms that architectural design serves as a core actor in this transformation. Therefore, it is argued that design integration must be considered an intrinsic part of the creative process from the outset when implementing digital art within historic contexts.
