GASTRONOMY TELEVISION PROGRAMME-INDUCED TOURISM: THE CASE OF GAZİANTEP
Abstract
Movies and television programmes affect the travel behaviors of tourists and are seen as a part of destinations’ image creating. It is also seen that there is lack of information about the effects of gastronomy TV programmes to travel behaviors in literature. In this study the effect of gastronomy TV programmes on travel decisions and the personal involvement inventories were analysed with empirical research design. The data were collected from 232 participants who watched a gastronomy TV programme which was recorded in a restaurant in Gaziantep through a questionary form with posttest in December, 2016. The findings show that gastronomy TV programmes have a positive effect on travel decisions. The more watching rate of these kinds of programmes increase, the more this positive effect. Besides it is concluded that the personal involvement inventory to gastronomy TV programme is more positive. The positive factors defining the personal involvement inventory are “creating relevance, valuable, attractive, involved and necessary”; negative factors are “common, dull, boring, meaningless and unnecessary”. The findings of this study support that gastronomy TV programmes have a place in film-induced tourism
