Artificial Intelligence Policy for Authors

Modular Journal prioritises transparency and academic integrity in scientific production. In this context, authors are expected to adhere to the following principles when using artificial intelligence (AI) tools:

Privacy and Data Protection:
Authors are responsible for protecting the confidentiality of all their inputs, including unpublished data. The terms and conditions of the AI tools used must be carefully reviewed; personal data, copyrighted images, or elements belonging to identifiable individuals, products, or brands should not be used.

Transparency and Disclosure Requirement:
The use of AI-based tools is assessed under the Artificial Intelligence Usage Statement submitted during article submission.

If AI is used in the research process, the purpose of its use, the name and version of the tool must be clearly stated in the relevant section (e.g., in the ‘Acknowledgements’ section for language support, in the ‘Methods’ section for data processing).

Human Oversight and Responsibility:
AI tools may only be used under the author's supervision and control. These tools cannot replace the author's original analysis and commentary. Authors bear full responsibility for their work. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors in an article and cannot hold copyright.

Accuracy and Scientific Reliability:
Authors must verify the accuracy, integrity, and impartiality of all content generated by AI. In particular, references or quotations created by AI may be erroneous or fabricated, so their validity must be verified.

Editorial Authority:
The editorial board reserves the right to withdraw, return, or reject an article from the review process if concerns arise regarding the use of AI. This authority is exercised to uphold the journal's publication ethics principles and academic integrity.

The Modular Journal has adopted the guidelines set out in the ‘Guideline on The Responsible and Reliable Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Research Funding Processes’ prepared by TUBİTAK on AI, as well as the COPE Standards rules.
