Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Akıllı Telefon Bağımlılık Düzeylerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Akıllı telefon bağımlılığı, günümüzde üniversite öğrencileri arasında küresel ölçekte giderek artan bir sorun olarak dikkat çekmektedir. Bu bağımlılık, yalnızca bireylerin psikolojik sağlığını ve sosyal ilişkilerini değil, aynı zamanda akademik başarılarını ve öğrenme süreçlerini de doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin akıllı telefon bağımlılık düzeylerini belirlemek ve bağımlılığın yaş, cinsiyet, öğrenim düzeyi ve günlük kullanım süresi gibi demografik değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini incelemektir. Araştırma, betimsel tarama modeli kapsamında yürütülmüş olup, veri toplama aracı olarak “Üniversite Öğrencilerine Yönelik Akıllı Telefon Bağımlılığı Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunu Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi’nde öğrenim gören 450 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veriler SPSS 27.0 programı aracılığıyla analiz edilmiş ve parametrik istatistiksel yöntemlerden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları, üniversite öğrencilerinin önemli bir kısmının günde 6 saatten fazla akıllı telefon kullandığını ve bu kullanımın büyük ölçüde sosyal medya ve eğlence amaçlı olduğunu göstermektedir. Erkek öğrencilerin, kadın öğrencilere kıyasla telefon kullanımına bağlı sağlık sorunlarını daha fazla yaşadığı belirlenmiştir. Yaş değişkenine göre, 18–21 yaş grubunun daha yoğun ve kontrolsüz kullanım sergilediği saptanmıştır. Ayrıca önlisans öğrencilerinin, lisansüstü öğrencilere kıyasla daha fazla fiziksel sağlık problemi yaşadığı ortaya konmuştur. Sonuç olarak, üniversite öğrencilerinde akıllı telefon bağımlılığının yaygın bir sorun olduğu görülmektedir. Bulgular, dijital farkındalığın artırılması, kullanım sürelerinin kontrol altına alınması ve ergonomik kullanım alışkanlıklarının geliştirilmesine yönelik politika ve eğitim programlarının geliştirilmesinin önemini vurgulamaktadır. Çalışma, pandemi sonrası dönemde genç yetişkinlerin dijital davranışlarına ışık tutarak hem literatüre hem de uygulamaya katkı sağlamaktadır.

Examination of Smartphone Addiction Levels Among University Students.

Abstract

Smartphone addiction is attracting attention as a growing global problem among university students today. This addiction directly impacts not only individuals' psychological health and social relationships, but also their academic success and learning processes. The aim of this study is to determine the level of smartphone addiction among university students and to examine whether addiction varies according to demographic variables such as age, gender, education level, and daily usage duration. The research was conducted using a descriptive survey model, and the "Smartphone Addiction Scale for University Students" was used as the data collection tool. The study group consisted of 450 students at Sivas Cumhuriyet University. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 software and parametric statistical methods. Research results indicate that a significant portion of university students use smartphones for more than six hours per day, and this use is largely for social media and entertainment purposes. Male students were found to experience more health problems related to phone use than female students. Based on age, it was determined that the 18-21 age group exhibited more intense and uncontrolled use. It was also revealed that associate degree students experienced more physical health problems compared to graduate students. In conclusion, smartphone addiction appears to be a widespread problem among university students. The results highlight the importance of developing policies and training programs to increase digital awareness, control usage time, and develop ergonomic usage habits. The study contributes to both the literature and practice by shedding light on young adults' digital behavior in the post-pandemic period.
