Abstract

Abstract

Abstract Cabbage grows everywhere and it has a lot of species. In addition to be a calorie poor and vitamin and mineral rich vegetable it is suggested that cabbage has antioxidant and anticancer effects. In history, there are many famous persons who have talked about important and advantages of cabbage from Cato and Pliny to Hippocrates and Dionysus. According to Cato, cabbage had sended away the doctors from his country. It was written that Doctor Chekhov believed cabbages than doctors. Cabbage is a vegetable discussed and investigated in many ways today too. According to the historical writings; cabbage can be used orally or externally. There are water, soap and powder forms of cabbage which have been used for some medical purposes. Its antithyroid effect is the most widely known medical aspect of cabbage. In addition to lots of pages and sites about cabbage in the Internet, there are approximately ten thousands of articles in PubMed. On the contrary of historically knowledge there are the side effects of cabbage and cabbage products besides its potential good effects in these articles. Keywords: Cabbage; Pubmed; Brassia oleracea
