Genç Yetişkinlerde Kariyer Stresi, Psikolojik Katılık ve Ruminasyon Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Year 2025, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 73 - 92, 30.06.2025

Abstract

Examination of the Relationship Between Career Distress, Psychological Inflexibility and Rumination in Young Adults

Year 2025, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 73 - 92, 30.06.2025

Abstract

Career distress is a phenomenon that refers to individuals' experiencing stress in situations related to career decision-making and career goal setting, which can occur at every stage of the career process. Career distress is also characterised by avoidance of career-related thoughts. Given the significant and positive relationship between psychological inflexibility and rumination with stress, it is hypothesised that these two concepts will also be effective on career distress. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between career distress, psychological inflexibility and rumination in young adults. The study group was designed with the relational survey model and comprised a total of 446 young adult participants, 356 (80%) female and 90 (20%) male, aged between 18 and 29 (mean = 24.73, SD = 3.33). The data were collected using the Career Distress Scale, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II, Rumination About an Interpersonal Offense Scale, and Personal Information Form. The SPSS 21 package program was used to analyse the data, which were analysed using independent sample t-test, multiple linear regression analysis and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient. The results of the research indicated that the career distress level of the participants with no working experience was found to be significantly higher than those with working experience. The results of the correlation coefficient indicated a positive and moderately significant relationship between career distress and psychological inflexibility. Similarly, a positive and moderately significant relationship was found between career distress and rumination. Regression analysis revealed that psychological inflexibility and rumination are positive predictors of career distress. Psychological inflexibility and rumination together explain 38% of the change in career distress scores.
