Abstract

Ahmet Korkmaz’s the Army in the Jalayirid State (1340–1411) is examining the military organization of the Jalayirid State, which emerged in the aftermath of the Ilkhanid period. Based on a doctoral dissertation completed at Harran University, this work presents an original and systematic analysis of the structure, function, and historical context of the Jalayirid army. Divided into six chapters, the book explores the command hierarchy, the socio-ethnic composition of military groups, the duties of ranked personnel, military technology, financial systems, and battlefield strategies in detail. The author meticulously utilizes both primary sources—such as period chronicles and miniature illustrations—and secondary literature to ensure historical accuracy. The work is supported by explanatory notes on technical military terminology, making it a valuable reference not only for specialized scholars but also for researchers interested in medieval history. Moreover, the work makes a significant scholarly contribution to military historical studies on the Jalayirid State.

Abstract

Ahmet Korkmaz’ın Celayirli Devleti’nde Ordu (1340–1411) adlı eseri, İlhanlılar sonrası kurulan Celayirli Devleti’nin askerî teşkilat yapısını kapsamlı şekilde incelemektedir. Harran Üniversitesi’nde tamamlanan bir doktora tezine dayanan bu çalışma, Celayirli ordusunun organizasyonu, yapısı, işleyişi ve tarihsel bağlamı üzerine özgün ve sistematik analizler sunmaktadır. Altı bölümden oluşan kitapta emir-komuta zinciri, askerî toplulukların sosyo-etnik yapısı, rütbeli personelin görev tanımları, savaş teknolojisi, finansal sistemler ve muharebe stratejileri detaylı biçimde ele alınmıştır. Yazar, dönemin kronikleri ve minyatürleri gibi birincil kaynaklarla birlikte ikincil literatürü titizlikle değerlendirerek tarihî gerçekliğe sadık kalmıştır. Eser, teknik askerî terimlerin açıklamalarıyla desteklenmiş olup hem uzman akademisyenler hem de Orta Çağ tarihiyle ilgilenen araştırmacılar için önemli bir başvuru kaynağı niteliğindedir. Ayrıca eser, Celayirli Devleti üzerine yapılan askerî tarih çalışmalarına akademik düzeyde önemli bir katkı sunmaktadır.
