The Applicaton Of Ferrocement At Ship And Boats
Abstract
Ferrocement is a kind of reinforced concrete with a thin wall, constructed of hydraulic cement mortar reinforced with closely spaced layers of continuous and relatively small diameter wire mesh. Its first applications were made by Joseph Louis Lambot at 1848. In 1940s it was handled again and developed by Nervi. At the end of the Nervi’s works it was restricted by the boat construction for several years. Ferrocement boat construction was attracted great attention because of being suitable for cheaper boat construction, easy finding its raw materials, its less labour necessity, being easy shapeable and its technical specifications. It was researched in our country too and a ferrocement boat was constructed at METU in 1976. A ferrocement boat was constructed at Eskişehir Osmangazi University CivilEngineering Department Laboratory and it was launched to Porsuk River. In this study, it is aimed to give general knowledge about such ferrocement applications.
